I saw this photo of a sea lion eating a sunfish and the first line of the chorus popped into my head.

From there it morphed into talking about one of my college relationships. I've been listening to Mitski and Wye Oak, so their writing and melodic style has been in my mind. This is just a quick recording.
Vulnerable
I am a creature outside my shell
Dumb with love
I gave my voice over to the witch’s spell
Make me needed make me wanted make me his
I’d give anything at all not to feel like this
But you took a bite right out of my head
Held me inside your mind while I bled
My heart extended for the slaughter
And now I fear the open water
Animal
You fight me like it’s life or death
I back down
You pin my ego with an arrowhead
Say I’m selfish, say I’m cold, say I’m lazy too
Say no one could love me better than you do
And you took a bite right out of my head
Held me inside your mind while I bled
My heart extended for the slaughter
And now I fear the open water
Now I fear the open water

You seriously have one of my favorite singing voices I've ever heard. Not sure what it is about it exactly, but it's so good! Your lyrics are also always really strong with imagery and unique in a particular way I like a ton. Out of curiosity, have you tried this song at a faster tempo? Maybe it's just my style lately, but I feel like this would work well with a faster, more chaotic energy because of the topic and the word choices being so aggressive at times. Would you mind sending me the chords? I'd love to try playing this myself!

Ooh great metaphor... slaughter, arrowhead, witches spell-- such vivid imagery and language here too. The first line of the chorus (literally) just grabs me! I hear a blend of those two influences but only since you mention them. It's entirely your sound. I "hear" this a full band production, it's a strong one for sure.

That's got such a great sound - your vocal and guitar have a great raw edge to them. Really enjoyed the delivery, particularly how you bent or stretched some of the words to make them sound new, like the very first one.

Beautiful. The lyrics capture this betrayal perfectly. The vocal delivery is exceptional. Loved every second of this.

It's sad this is something that happens to people. You did an awesome job on the lyrics. I really enjoy your voice. You gave it emotion and feeling.
