Feb 2022 country-folk folk whiskey nostalgia
Follow the sound of the sky falling down like the rain on an old whiskey jar
It’s on and it’s in and it’s under my skin like the grain of the wood on the bar
The dreams I’ve betrayed and the love I’ve mislaid, all stretched on my skin like a scar.
So follow me down as I’m poured in the ground like the rain on an old whiskey jar.
Some nights you hold your whiskey, and some nights it holds you
At a darkened kitchen table, when the day has long been through
In a midnight court of reckoning with your whole life on review
Sometimes to really love someone, you’ve got to stay a stranger, too.

This was lovely. Very whiskey voice, which is very appropriate. I liked the lyrics. So thoughtful. Love the image of rain on an old whiskey jar. Very strong imagery.
Great slow song! Nice work!

I really like this. One thing that stood out for me was how long each line was. Not a lot of lyrics seem to play out like that; I might challenge myself to try and do something along those lines at some point.

Love the internal rhymes on the chorus. Also the acoustic sounds, sounds like you have a mandolin or octave mando in the mix.

Oooh…really like this. So bard-like. Nice strum and vocals. Intriguing lyrics. Especially the whisky lines. Clever!

The string band and vocal harmonies create an immediate atmosphere. I like the symbolic language a lot. The sky and the whiskey and the internal life all blend together artfully. This was a great FAWM find.
