Feb 2022 experimental looping ebow beat-repeat glitchy improvisation
We're in to the second half of the month, and so HFO is returning to his more experimental pursuits.
The bass is progressively distorted toward the middle of the piece by Ableton's "Beat Repeat" delay, which cuts in at random intervals for random amounts of time, the chance of it doing so starting at 0% and reaching 100% in the middle section before decreasing back to zero again at the end.
I recorded two verses of vocals, which I then cut up into smaller and smaller fragments as I worked in from both ends of the track and randomly jumbled up. Completely by accident, the final word audible in the first part was "meaning." That was too serendipitous not to use!
And then I recorded a blank piece of audio in my looper that is exactly eight bars long at the 101 bpm of this piece. I improvised the guitar part into it as the piece progresses, switching the pedal's overdub function off and on again as required.
A convoluted process for just over three minutes of music, yes, but it was *fun*!
Meaning is not quite
the redundant thing
that I once thought
I'm spinning like
the platters of the disk
on which I'm caught
There is
a quite specific order
to words I've arrayed
The message getting through
omits the meaning
that I made

A sonic treat in this one, great sense of suspense and frantic energy.

yup thats a lot for 3 minutes but - hmm lets not go there ha ha It does appear to be free moving and keeps interest with that build feeling

Randomization is a fun effect. Seductive vocals. Love the experimentation.

Great bass sound.
I enjoyed reading your Liner Notes.
Oh yes I can hear the chaos creeping in...
Yeah, this middle bit is interesting.
A really cool atmospheric piece here.

Yess. Great vibe. I see you used your own vocals on this one.
That repeated bass line fits well with underlying key track.
