I took today off work to look after my daughter who has been coughing for about a week. I wasn't sure I'd get anything done in her nap, especially as it was a very short one! Turned out she inspired this little ditty about remembering the importance of connecting with my children and being in the moment rather than feeling like I have to get all the housework done!
Run to the end of the road little Violet
Run to the sand and the sea
Go tell you ma to come along little Violet
Let's forget the washing and the tea
Ma said she can't come to the sea
Who's gonna make the dinner for thee?
Ma said she can't come down the road
Unless someone shares the load
Run to the end of the road little Violet
Run to the sand and the sea
Go tell you ma to come along little Violet
Let's forget the washing and the tea
Ma took a deep breath, closed her eyes
Saw how the sparrow freely flies
She put her pots and pans away
Said they could wait another day
Run to the end of the road little Violet
Run to the sand and the sea
Go tell you ma to come along little Violet
Let's forget the washing and the tea

This sounds like an Appalachian classic! This is amazing Tan ! The lyric is so concise but communicates so much in so few words. This is just a perfect little song.

I love this - banjo sounds great and just the whole overall idea is appealing. Love the old timey sound.

Oh what a joy to hear this! Firstly love the music, timeless melody n how the banjo then violin doubles to melody, love the harmonies. But also love the lyrics, how you’ve made the drudgery sound so pretty and the concept of letting it go- haha they have no idea how much work they are! But we can learn from them too. Love it!

Makes me want to frolic by the river in a dainty dress and flowers in my hair. Beautiful lyrics and harmonies! And the banjo and fiddle make it even more magical.

Your song was lovely… peaceful. Really gave me an itch to get to a bluegrass/ old time festival. Loved the lyrics and the tune.

This sounds fantastic!

Just wonderful, honest to goodness Americana. Gorgeously played and sung, plus knowing the backstory gave it an extra depth. So true! Hope she feels better soon! Thank you for sharing this.

This is lovely and feels like an old trad song. love the fiddle addition on verse 2 - and the general easy-going , cozy feeling of it. If I had been coughing for a week, this song would be such a sweet balm for my spirit!

I could have just listened to the wonderful opening banjo riffing continue for a while, and then came the wonderful voices! And fiddle - such an evocative sound!
Delightful slice of life, and your playing and singing are top-notch. Wow!

You've got that banjo humming! classic folk style for here for sure! really enjoyable and you got the fiddle back in!

Oh this is so pretty, straight from the late 1930’s. I love the harmonies and fiddle when they are introduced and like that your vocals are relatively low in the mix as it sounds like recordings from the times.
I hope your little one perks up soon. She’ll be ‘ultra’violet in no time. ;-)
