Wake up in the morning it’s dark
I am staring at my phone for hours
You and me we're talking low key
You know chatting is my superpower
Day’s getting brighter
Doing just fine
Standing in my doorway
Need some time
Seeing those little dots form
I am not OK
You send me single letters
Over here I’m composing essays
Anyway whatever I’m stuck
You make it so hard to look up
Coming off the longest drive
I am killing time in the driveway
I can't leave the car right now
The phone screen is where my eyes stay
Day's getting brighter
Doing just fine
Standing in the doorway
Take your time
Maybe I'm not ready but
I am on my way OK
You send me single letters
Over here I’m composing essays
Anyway whatever I’m stuck
You make it so hard to look up

“You make it so hard to look up” and “seeing those little dots form, I am not OK” are my two favorite moments in this. So relatable! And sadly so, because phones are just time-sucking monsters by nature, and doubly so when you’re waiting for someone’s reply, and quadruple-y so when all they give back is a single letter. Not that I speak from experience. At all.

"You send me single letters
Over here I’m composing essays" Be it said, i hate phones! And THAT is one of the reasons! It's a trap the phone watcher is falling into, but there's nothing one can do or say to help her (not sure why I assume it's a "here", must be inherent in teh lyric). Good stuff.
