Too many syllables. But I tried to work on metre.
I used my phone to add a backing track whilst recording on my laptop - tapping a mug and going 'do loo do doo' - but I didn't work too hard on it - how it came out and coincided with words was largely chance happenstance. It wasn't the full length of the song and at one point it shut down/didn't loop.
Plastic poppies left on lamp-posts all year round.
Woman in the background on TV
Wearing a wooly one in February.
Possibly 'means nothing'
But this is all memory!?
All year round, lest we forget
(chance would be a fine thing)
'Lest we forget'
Obscuring
'Never Again'
(Never Again. Never Again.)
'Never again' obscured by Nazism:
We still hear 'Victory over Fascism!'
Over Japan and Empire's loss;
Over its continuation!
And all that's gross!
All that's gross shifted
To Islam and to the Lefties
But none of us are clean,
Our worship's best, our working week,
Swinging the pendulum.
But not respectively.
But so many narratives rattling on.
As if fights were dreams
And to wake was to slide
Into suicide: far too 'woke'
The awareness of hope,
Perchance to dream against arms!
No, rather we're for taking them
Against the the sheen
Of dreamless sleep
Where we can't be found!
But so gloriously could end up!?

Fabulous exposé of the hypocrisy surrounding poppies. Love the line about "lest we forget" obscuring "never again". Brexit was a direct result of the ridiculous "Empire Nostalgia" of those still stuck with "Victorian Values"
