Feb 2022 poetry spoken-word acoustic guitar dreamy
Mike: For the past couple years, I have had the privilege of taking @chandra83's lyrics and setting them to music, usually spoken word. Sometimes the music is deep and dark and I wanted to go lighter this time around. And I also like repeating the poem twice so it can sink in a little more.
I could slip
Into nothing
And wear it
Like a cloak
I could hide
In the shadows
And become
The darkness
I am forced
To breathe
The daylight
And the sun
I wish
I was nighttime
And could glow
With the moon.

Sweet, wistful, dreamy and contemplative. The character is mysterious and intriguing yet deeply relatable. The way the guitar sort of floats and hovers, never quite touching down. Drifty and etheric, I like this a lot.

I love the imagery and metaphors of nothing, daylight, sun, and moon. All of that in such a terse write!

oooooh I like this one a lot! The turn where the speaker wants to disappear to where at the end they want to glow with the moon... nice.

This makes me think of the music for Enigma's "Sadness, Pt. 1" though I'm not entirely sure why. I think maybe because I think these lyrics would work well with that kind of sensual synth style that evokes something lunar or nocturnal to match the theme and imagery of the lyrics. Have you ever heard that song? I especially like the first verse as slipping into nothing could mean different thing and they all seem to fit the analogy of wearing it "like a cloak."

This is a pretty poem, very delicate and precise. If it is ok, I can try to do music for these lines. Let me know.
