Inspired by a bunch of birthdays that have taken place recently, this song is a fictional reflection on those thoughts that swim in your head that time of year.
Never underestimate how I can screw things up,
Underwhelm and overstate I'm running out of luck,
I am my own worst enemy, but i'll never surrender to us
I have always thought that thinking would be my thing,
But I find the quantity of thoughts deafening,
I would swap them all for just a few, sane and distinct
---
Now I had always thought that I would be there by now,
at least I'm one, one year wiser.
---
Self obsession is a self fulfilling prophecy,
The more I try and stop the more I’m thinking about me,
I realise that giving and sharing, will help set me free
---
Ain't where I wanna be, right at this time,
at least i'm one, one year kinder
---
— Break
Time will grab you neck and spin you round again,
While I’m catching up I can respect that it is the game,
I keep an eye on calendars and try to stay, no too ashamed
---
Not as young as yesterday but i'm feeling fine,
at least i'm one, one year older,
Not as young as yesterday but i'm doing fine
at least i'm one, one year older,
---

I really enjoyed this! Loved the thoughtfulness and tongue-in-cheek, wry wittiness. Loved the lyric "Self obsession is a self fulfilling prophecy,/The more I try and stop the more I’m thinking about me." Your guitar track is also gorgeous.

This is beautiful! Love the guitar and the harmonies. Love the journey, small steps each year. I like the retrospection. Just a wonderful song!

I can hear the B&S influence hear, love your voice and the bouncyness the guitar part has

Very fine guitar playing and a lovely melody! The harmonic touches are nice. The lyrics are well-written and very relatable (I once wrote a song which included, “Years slip by somehow - it should be no surprise We always thought by now We’d be a little wiser”). Enjoyed this very much!
