Wayne:
Just to be clear, I am creating a duplicate post with @barbara's full approval in advance.
Barbara wrote some lovely lyrics for @wacha's skirmish this weekend (prompt: Straight Talk), and I was very honored to be able to add some music to it. She and I have been FAWM friends for years, but this is our first collab.
This is the second one that I wrote on piano this year...calluses are not needed for that! LOL
Barbara:
I’m really happy with what Wayne did with my words. The carefully nuanced emotional tone and spot-on delivery feel very authentic and potent to me. Thanks for bringing this lyric to musical life!
Little things are warning me, Where you don’t seem the same
Slightly off, or not as soft, My words go down the drain
Something’s on your mind, that much I know…
How far you gonna drift before you go?
Give it to me straight, Don’t spare my feelings
Better now than in a blindside down the road that leaves me reeling
Babe, there's no need to wait
Just give it to me straight
Gestures in the morning, When a little means a lot
You’re hollow in your efforts now, I’d rather you just not
Something’s in the way of our old flow
Tell me, is there something I should know?
Give it to me straight, Don’t spare my feelings
Better now than in a blindside down the road that leaves me reeling
Babe, there's no need to wait
Just give it to me straight
If there’s one foot out the door…
And you don’t want this anymore…
Please don’t drag me through the wreckage, just give it to me straight.
Give it to me straight, Don’t spare my feelings
Better now than in a blindside down the road that leaves me reeling
Babe, there's no need to wait
Just give it to me straight
If it really is too late
Then give it to me straight

Great vocal take on the wonderful lyrics.
Well done you both. I've been a Barbara nut for years and I love the rawness of the collab.

Ooh. This one really resonated! From a long ago experience, but this song and performance really stirred up something. That's a neat piece of magic. :-)

I loved the lyrics along , but this brings it alive
The vocals and piano are no nonsense good!

These lyrics are so perfect. And wow i adore the piano and vocal. You guys took me to a abeautiful place full of simplicity and emotion. The development of the song and melodies with chord progressions are perfect here. So beautifully sung as well. Those vocals are something to really be proud of

Oh do these lyrics hit home. @barbara, you set the table perfectly and anyone who has dined here must find these words to be true. Such a distinct and strange type of longing that you have captured, the want for truth at the end of the road.
@ofishell, you really deliver these words with the aching and emotion it needed. Great collaboration.

First, the calluses comment made me laugh since I relate to it...This is a beautiful interpretation of Barbara's amazing, raw lyrics in music and emotive vocal. Beautiful collab!!
@musicsongwriter Feb 2022
Very beautiful, insightful lyrics and music. Gorgeous singing and playing. What a beautiful collaboration! I'm used to Barbara creating her music and lyrics, singing and playing but I also love this collaboration. Different style but it works brilliantly. Kudos to both of you.

Totally wonderful in all respects! I really love Barbara’s amazing writing. The piano ballad delivery of the lyric is stunningly beautiful. Brilliant collaboration!
@fiteclub Feb 2022
@barbara, nice lyrics. And Wayne, I really like your delivery here.
@kenmattsson Feb 2022
Great lyrics here by @barbara, and great delivery by @ofishell. Great chords (even if you're just "banging them out") and the melody is so evocative. Nice job.
