Ah-The “friends with benefits” twenty something song about the guy who I kind of enjoyed not quite knowing. For me, there was real power in this strange “relationship”- in the agency I had in getting what I wanted from someone and not getting wrapped up in a fantasy world.
Just As the last round
Was called out
I would fumble with my phone
I’d be real forward
Invite ya over
You’d be there before I made it home
(Id) Switch on the good lights
And the lofi
We’d dance around like we were drunk
And Spend the morning
Being foolish
Fall asleep before the sun was up
I never really saw you
In the day time
You never really saw me
With my friends
So I don’t think we really
Knew each other honestly
But both of us were
Willing to pretend
I met ya back when
I was a novice
And You smoked Marlboros at lunch
And I was stuck on
Some other someone
And I don’t think you had a hunch
I wasn’t just a maybe
I was the real thing
And you were only hangin round
And so we kicked it
But never sealed it
I bet you still regret it now
You thought you were the wiser one
You thought you knew the way
But I kept changing the tune
As you slept
Til I id burned that old song away
We weren’t destined for greatness
We were only havin’ laughs
And I consented to the satire
Of Dancing round our little past
And making merry
…Just for a minute
A minute that went on and on
Because in truth I loved the power
Of rewriting a worn out song

this wouldn’t be out of place in the Eilish canon, hope you don’t mind the comparison.
loved the waltz and you got to an interesting metaphor (the old song) towards the end.

I looove this melody, it's so...twisty. Or there's something really classic in it, but in a slinky way. Your lyrics are amazing, they're so solid. Like they're tangible, rather than metaphorical but there's so much emotion in them.

Love you vocals and that little twang you get in your phrasing, there is probably a techie term but I don't know it. The treatment on what sounds like a uke us great, it has a lovely oldie type feel to it. Top notch double take vox too

Love this. The waltz really lends to the reflective nostalgia vibe, the lyrics are strong, and the double vox creates a cool texture. I was expecting it to end with another chorus! Nice defiance of expectation :)
