Feb 2022 guy-with-guitar indie political acoustic-one-take
I've been slacking on writing songs for a while, but I'm back and determined to finish this thing! Although since I waited for so long I'm gonna have to pump out a song a day if I want to catch up.
This is a kinda political song about the unintended consequences of modern-day capitalism and industrialization. I might redo some of the lyrics later since I'm not really feeling the last verse.
The sun is setting low and the fog is closing in
And the old world burns as we flee
We lit our blazing torches, burned the village and the farms
Nothing left now but smoking debris
The fumes all choke the air, and the gears begin to turn
A cruel and confusing machine
A mountain of wires and engines and chains
With consequences unforeseen
We have everything we need, we have wealth beyond compare
But there are treasures that we lost and never found
These empires of gold built on the bones of the exploited
How much longer will it be until it all comes crashing down

I like the delivery of this, with the tempo being quicker than the pace of the guitar. Salient words too. A cruel and confusing machine indeed.
