So i saw a thread about lack of traditional country songs, And i do like to push myself out of my comfort zone with something i not done before. Last year was a sea shanty, this year (i thought) country.
PIC - getting tired of searching for pics so here's one of me on my travels from couple of years back pretenting to be a shining light ;-) or a bit of tit ;-)
Then i found a really cool electric guitar loop, ended up doing something totally not country , and then the country section needed a chorus, and i slipped into indie rock, And blah blah , the biggest mismatch of genres i ever ended up doing but oooo i did have fun ;-) .
The lyrics were an instant stream of consciousness which often ends up with me releasing a mesasge about the inner self, love life , discovery, etc but with the upbeat tempo of the country part i wanted to try to bring a song of pure positivity whether one is referencing personal growth, connecitons with others, or simply what i think the bloody world could do with right now.
PS - if anyone wants to take the beginning or end of tune and create a different song am happy to send files
So come home with me
We'll share in what we read
and we'll be fine, just fine
Into the countryside with me
we'll dance between the leaves
and we'll be fine, so fine
Go ahead and close your eyes
the freedom you can find
beyond skin deep, don't weep
love is like a flower seen
different branches all set free
Allowed to grow
we know
Walking on an open road
temptations lay in every stone
looking down consumed its all around
So look up to the sky and see
the space for life that's been bequeathed
to every living soul al around
Open to those doors and you'll be found
If we play hide and seek
and you hide inside my heart
i will find you i will find you
when the voice of life in me
reaches the ear of life in you
We're entwined, so fine
What does love embrace you see
each other claimed for our own keep?
Instead its in the space that lies between
So let go as your time is slim
and feel those energies within
embrace it all as a whole part of life
The power of unknown is shining bright
All our life
so don't try
feel your pain
slip on by
go and cry
if you like
inner you
keeps shining bright

Goodness, I think you have ended up with a new genre. Yeah, this is definitely uplifting. I like it and really love how you just switch sounds on a dime and it works great. The positive message is great--I could listen to this kind of thing over and over. You pulled this off! Well done!

Of course I was drawn to the banjo tag ... and what an unexpected, delightful treat of a song I discovered! All parts of it totally work as a whole - it's quite epic and inspiring!

Oh hahaha, that change up knocked me for six! What a wonderful mash up, you really ARE the cleverest stitching this all together to make this coherent still. I LOVE how easily these lyrics flow out of you dude :) What a gorgeous outtro too.

I heard the intro and thought, "where's the country Karl?" I should've known you'd come through with something amazing. This is what I'd call "psychedelic country." This song is quite a journey. Very impressive.

Wow! This is a wonderful and unique start to a great upbeat banjo neo-classic country feel! Love the insight and message in this. I think it is so cool how your make different styles morph into each other. Awesome!

Congratulations…I don’t think I’ve ever heard muted Wah-Wah guitar blend seamlessly into a banjo riff before. I love unexpected genre mashups (I just did a baroque piano and strings arrangement with broken hip hop beats) but you manage to keep it all glued together with superb production and the consistent upbeat of the rhythm section and positive vibes of the vocals. It works!

I love the tchaktchka at the guitar juste before the contry switch. I expected it to go red-hot-chilly-peppery, and it took me unballanced !

What a cool mash-up of genres. Some great experimentation in here and takes the mind on a cool journey. Banjos so bad-ass. Great work.

Hahaha love the bluegrass band showing up in the middle of a Floyd concert
Great song craft, fun and love, it's all here :)

Oh, that banjo! Wonderful! (-: Such a fine lyric as well. I especially love the last section:
The power of unknown is shining bright
All our life
so don't try
feel you pain
slip on by
go and cry
if you like
inner you
keeps shining bright
Tremendous performance, memorable melody. All well done, Sir. (:

This is totally off the hook! Your banjo playing is amazing, great production and love how you take it out there into kind of an alt-country genre. Such a beautiful message in your lyrics. Really speaks to the seeker in me.
Great uplifting song!

Fantastic! There you go again with your musical genius, making unexpected connections and coming up with something brilliant! I love how playful this is ~ the mixing of genres, the buoyancy of the tune, the freedom-loving but wise lyrics. Love it! And, you know me, I do love a good country sound, but surprisingly enough, my favorite part is actually the instrumental bit at the end with the guitars, synth, and "oooh"s all going at once. Quite a ride!
@mandolinda Feb 2022
I heard a banjo in there. What’s production here. Certainly a fun ride.
@owl Feb 2022
Whiplash! This has so many twists and turns in genre, it’s a wild ride. great energy and playing as always!
@jibbidy34 Feb 2022
Whoa Nelly! I don’t know how you did that! What a mash up. If Oasis, The Charlatans and Mumford & Sons had a shoot out on stage this would be it. But you so seamlessly knit these genres together I’m left in awe… just how you pulled that off was pure musical instinct.
