The skirmish prompt was "something nerdy." Please comment if you have your own favorite nerdy songwriting tools!
I have a 12-sided die
And a 20-sided die
And a clear plastic jar full of other kinds of dice.
I’m rolling out a topic
To write another lyric.
I put my faith in chaos. I hope it’s something nice!
I guess I need to say it:
I’m not a basement gamer
And I don’t belong to any kind of fandom.
I just hate to get bogged down in
Making a decision;
In fact, I get a kick from selecting things at random.
Here’s my thesaurus.
It’s not a kind of dragon.
This book is full of words, grouping synonyms together.
The crossword dictionary
Isn’t bad-tempered.
It organizes clues based on how many letters.
I like to write in pencil
But not just any pencil.
They’re all Number 2, but the twos are not equal.
These ones by Mitsubishi
Have Japanese quality.
I bought an extra box in case I write a sequel.
For rhyming dictionary,
I once had Clement Wood,
But his wood became inclement all over my desk.
I got Merriam-Webster.
It’s a little bit better.
It includes modern words like Kafkaesque.

You must have quite the process for writing songs! I laughed because I get a new FAWM notebook every year and a new box of a particular type of pencils. My chord dictionary is right by my side. Great job!!

I'm a sucker for songs about songwriting and this ticks all the boxes for me. What a great use of the prompt and a solid write, skir.ish or otherwise.

A truly nerdish song ! Congratulations on getting so many different nerdy methods for inspiration in there.
I like the rhymes and the rhythm of the lines. Would be cool to hear it musicated.

I love all of the cool tools you get into in your lyric. It flows beautifully and rhymes impressively (not surprisingly), and is totally relatable, especially to your present audience. I use the lyric cloud from the Muse tools when I'm stuck for a direction, and rhymezone when I'm stuck for a rhyme. And I used to use Black Warrior pencils, the best!! But, now it looks like you can only get them priced as veritable antiques! Which, in a way I guess they are. Great write!!!

Oh, written like a true nerd and pencil purist! Well done!
@jwhanberry Feb 2022
Very nice meta lyric. I keep RhymeZone on a tab right next to FAWM so I'm never lost for a rhyme. Good skirmishing.

Awesome lyrics!

First of all, congrats to your dice collection from my dice collection! :)
This is an awesome song that mixes different kinds of nerd-dom in a fun way. Would love to listen to it!
(My fav songwriting tool is improvising melodies over harmonies. That's just how I roll.)

Very nice and excellent grammatically-correct reference to dice. So many clever lyrics here - personal favourite: "I once had Clement Wood,
But his wood became inclement all over my desk." Made me snort with laughter! Very nice work!

I get it! Systematically random so you can be sure you’re not like every other writer writing from the same writing prompt. If only we could all learn to not get bogged down when there is a decision to arrive at. Anyway, it’s fun to read the account of someone who takes process so seriously.

"Here’s my thesaurus. / It’s not a kind of dragon." - are you sure?
Love the obvious deep dive into the rhyming dictionary at the end - nice skirmish!
@keithcuts Feb 2022

Oh yes! This clearly demonstrate the obsessive nature of the Nerd! Great details. I 'd love to hear how this gets turned into song.
Have you read the novel "The Dice Man" by Luke Rhinehart? It's about taking to extremes your dice directed order (or is that chaos?)
