Literally wrote this in the middle of the night on night last week because I couldn't sleep.
The track will put. you to sleep, though, if you're having trouble!
I Can’t Sleep
Copyright 2022 by Bob McKillop
Verse 1
I engage in silent, lengthy meditation
Attempt to lose my mental concentration
Focus on my steady respiration
It all results in nothing but frustration
In the panic of my desperation
I start counting sheep
I can’t sleep
Verse 2
The sheets are a straight jacket round my waist
My tongue is dry and has a funny taste
The pillow presses creases in my face
The night will soon be gone without a trace
In the bottom of this well of darkness
The bowels of the deep
I can’t sleep
Bridge
Haven’t had any sleep in a month or two
My body doesn’t function, I’ve got work to do
Wild hallucinations, I can barely see
I need to get some sleep to keep my sanity
Verse 3
Melatonin just gives me a migraine
Sleeping pills raise hell inside of my brain
Tequila, whisky, gin and tonic, champaign
Make my mind go driving like a freight train
Chemicals won’t get me there
The hill is way too steep
I can’t sleep

Hey, Bob - This one really might be what it takes to put me back to sleep at night. Way to take the situation and turn it into art. A friend of mine adapted Haruki Marukami's short story as a play that felt just like this song. Maybe this could be her theme song if she tours the show.
