I really connected with Amanda's lyrics, they're sparing but hint at a deeper narrative. Some of the images - the clean cotton sheets, the perfumed nights - are so strong. And I liked the idea of trying to write an 80s ballad - dare I say an 80s POWER ballad. So I did the classic thing of jumping in with no idea how I was actually going to execute the damn thing. Turns out writing an 80s power ballad is HARD. Anyway, here it is in all its power ballady glory. For what it's worth, I was very much channelling Tony Hadley in the choruses.
My heart runs on nothing anymore
Since the tenderness died
Too much space in the void
Too much air in my sighs
My body lies crying
On clean cotton sheets
No more perfumed nights
Ooohh
Why do I feel this way
Ooohh
It's all too much
But it doesn't go away
Ooohh
It doesn't go away
Remorseful love
Remorseful love
The feeling was so strong before
Yet I'm missing you still
I'm sorry for all of my words
Love I gave only hurt
Where once was desire
All love an' no blame
Emotions turn to flame
Ooohh
Why do I feel this way
Ooohh
It's all too much
But it doesn't go away
Ooohh
It doesn't go away
Remorseful love
Remorseful love
My body lies crying
On clean cotton sheets
No more perfumed nights
Ooohh
Why do I feel this way
Ooohh
It's all too much
But it doesn't go away
Ooohh
It doesn't go away
Remorseful love
Remorseful love

This rocks. Really terrific singing and passionate lyrics. And that guitar solo!
@rshakesp Feb 2022
This is sick, crazy, dope, the boss. Yes I like it it - it’s genre busting despite the obvious alignment to all things 80s - great orchestration and the harmonic and melodic writing is tip top as ever
@andrea Feb 2022
Power ballad are my favorite music to listen to and this has made my day. These lyrics are so good. I love these lines:
"My body lies crying
On clean cotton sheets
No more perfumed nights"
Love the musical treatment and the vocals soar. I simply love it!
@karlsburg25 Feb 2022
I absolutely adore Amanda's lyrics and my how wonderfully they have been expressed here. This is a real modern day but with remiinders of the 80s huge ballad. The way you project that vocal is simply stunning. Brilliant guys
@owl Feb 2022
Whoa, @davidtaro you nailed the 80’s power ballad feel! The instrumentation/arrangement is perfect for the genre. @ajna1960 Love the “no more perfumed nights” line—what a great way to make the image of clean sheets feel sad.
@kahlo2013 Feb 2022
Spectacular power ballad!! The soaring clear strong vocals have so much emotion! Really fantastic as they deliver the poignant lyric - the longing and hurt it palpable! Great orchestral music backing! Amazing and gorgeous and moving! Brilliant collaboration!!!
@danvaillancourt Feb 2022
Wow! That big theatrical delivery and 80s power ballad arrangement are sweet. Love the guitar solo. Wonderful poetic lyrics. Nice collab!!
@jerrypettit Feb 2022
You've definitely got the 80s vibe down--although I kind of missed the 80s myself. I was raising kids. Michael Jackson, right? And some British synthy guys? THAT 80s?
This is a terrific piece--great lyrics, @ajna1960 . Awesome vocal, and truly impressive musical arrangement! Fantastic job!! Great collaboration!!
@fonte Feb 2022
This is so good, trust me I KNOW how hard it is to make something like this. And you've nailed it! Anyone who doesn't know, please try. And you will have new found respect for people like Paul Young, Even if you hate their music. It's just amazing how good they had to be to make that kind of stuff tight but groove. I guess it was all pre-midi. Anyway, sorry, I'm having some kind of weird nostalgia moment. I'll stop. I mean I guess I could edit this comment....But no. I don't think I will. Ahh yes!!! You got a sax in there. Had to be done. Guitar solo tone is PERFECT. How did you get that!?
@xfloorpunchx Feb 2022
I could totally hear that song on the radio, sounds like a classic top40 track! Awesome collab!
@eas3637 Feb 2022
The synth and opening percussion screamed power ballad from the first second. Love the build to the chorus and the backup singers. Such a great collaboration!
@musicsongwriter Feb 2022
Very beautiful, powerful and sincere heartbreak song. Absolutely brilliant work from both of you. Your song goes straight into my heart. Truly amazing and epic ballad. Kudos to both of you.
@bandybum Feb 2022
Ooo yeah a bit of 80s heartbreak
Love the melody and passionate vocals, backing instrumentation delivers well and the arrangement is bang on!
Another win from Amanda's stable
Nailed it with this collab, guys :)
@rayboneor Feb 2022
Whoa, I caught this in the lyrics-only phase. I was totally unprepared for the big, dramatic treatment here. There's so much power and emotion in that vocal. You could make this effective just with voice, words, and acoustic guitar--but you've outdone yourself with this full arrangement. Mmmm...I will just shut up and listen
@katestantonsings Feb 2022
What is cool about this composition is that even if you took the 80's treatment away, the song is solid with that voice and the lyrics alone! This could make a beautiful acoustic number or full-on production--both skillsets of a good musician. Versatility. My lighter is in the air for the saxophone synth sounds (but away from the flammable hairspray--keeping it safe!)
@panch Feb 2022
You've pressed all the power ballad buttons, big voice, huge production, emotional lyrics, loads of hooks and lifts and a killer guitar solo.
Diane Warren would be proud of this one!
@thedutchwidows Feb 2022
This is so well done. The lyrics are so good that the vocal needed to be really strong to deliver them, and boy is it. The vocals are so, so good; the whole things is really well-structured and performed. And that guitar solo, wow. The way that last note hangs is so evocative of a time when there was so much power in guitar solos; they could change the world. I can see Gary Moore's face looking meaningfully down the camera lens, knowing that the world would sleep easy now. Brilliant collaboration.
@nadine Feb 2022
I didn't expect a 80s power ballad from David Taro. But well you already surprised ne in January. I'm happy that you used your favourite chord progression in the prechorus. Your falsetto is so freaking high that you can duets yourself lol.
Amanda's lyrics are wonderful. This sounds like a ballad but not schmaltzy. I smell the perfume of the 80s.
Good collab!
@nuchoyce Feb 2022
You two work great together. Powerful 80's tune. Your voice is insane man. And that Guitar solo is on point.
@coolparadiso Feb 2022
yup you may say Power oooo that use of delay! my hair is longer, my jeans are tattier, my bones dont ache oh i am back in the 80s/ But i think i like yoiur 80s better than a lot i heard! Amanda set you up a treat - the really good lyric was screaming for this delivery and that Riff omg i am back there! top rate to you both
@kenmattsson Feb 2022
You hit the brief here @davidtaro! I'm back in high school for this! Great job.
@halfwayhome Feb 2022
Haha, yes! don't hold back Mr Taro!
For the first three minutes, I kept wondering why you had the guitar hanging round your back..... of course, it's the 80s, and guitar solos LIKE THAT are positively encouraged.
Great track dude, executed to perfection - even the 'authentic' saxophone ;)
@n24 Feb 2022
Now this is a damn POWER ballad! Excellent work! The lyrics really do inspire the beautiful 80’s vibe so good call! The wailing guitar solo is ace. I love the harmonies, so much feeling in this track! Really punchy, 10/10 will listen again.
@sbs2018 Feb 2022
Was really curious about this after reading the liner notes. Wow! I’m in at first note. Vocals are so awesome!
@codeenergy Feb 2022
I really get Queen vibes from this. The production is lit! The vocals sound great.
@feb21sundari Feb 2022
Very powerful ballad develloped from this great lyrics
@richaaaay Feb 2022
Wonderfull lyrics. For me, the chorus is the highlight here. It just pops with 80's POWER! Those Oooohhs add just the right touch. Had to list to that solo a few times...You are so good finding perfect melodies to play on guitar. Love that step and a half bend at the end of your solo.
@stephenwordsmith Feb 2022
Amazing production that takes the pain, passion and fire from the lyrics and shouts them from the rooftops.
These words are incredible, full of contrasts between comfort, cleanliness and luxury and hurt and emptiness. It never gets self-indulgent - at least, not beyond what is suitable for a 1980s powerballad.
@nahlej381 Feb 2022
Power. BALLAD!!!!! This is fun, bright with a bit of pain in the edges. Beautifully executed. Lyrics are well written…my eyes are wet and my heart has a crack in it.
