Feb 2022 post-rock avatarchallenge instrumental werswerzia
This is my entry for Andy's "Avatar Challenge" (https://fawm.org/forums/topic/12042/).
My avatar is a microphone. But not any microphone — it's an AKG C414 XLII. I wanted to use the AKG C414 for my avatar challenge, but I don't have one and turns out they're quite expensive!
I scoured the internet and found some samples of an acoustic guitar recorded with the AKG C414. I couldn't use them because of copyright, but... when those samples are reversed, stretched, and EQ'd they become unrecognizable!
So here it is. The initial pads in this song were recorded with the AKG C414 XLII. I added guitars, drums, bass, and a SAMPLED ELEPHANT.
(Elephant samples from https://freesound.org/people/roubignolle/sounds/35142/ and https://freesound.org/people/D.jones/sounds/527845/.)

HAHA, your liner notes are hilarious! I really thought that you were going to say that you had a 414, but I really should have known that you would use your creativity to figure out some different angle. This is really cool and feels foreign to me...kind of getting my travel fix on this one. Great mood and cool flowing sounds. You are really good at this kind of thing and I enjoy listening to it. The melody is kind of sneaky, as it is sort of subtle but definitely present and driving. Really good!

I still have no clue where werswerzia is or even what's weswerzia or how's werswerzia or why but I have now concluded that they have some pretty damn musical elephants there and we really need to recognize the moral status of elephants so I will start an activist group or would if I knew where or what or how or why werswerzia. It's the thought that counts, right?

I love how the elephant just kinda sneaks in there. No big deal, just chillin' to the groove.

I can really get into this sort of post-rock sound! You really nailed what I love about the genre. But you also changed it up some. Great work!

I really liked the feel of this song. Has a great moving energy…
@audrey Feb 2022
Very cool! A wonderfully moody and full sound. I could easily see this in a sci-fi movie soundtrack for a scene where the characters are traveling somewhere in futuristic vehicles on a strange planet.

Very creative approach to the challenge and well done! Thanks for playing.
@ericlord Feb 2022
Awesome sound! The elephant sounds are so cool

That was sweet. Some cool sounds and enough changes to keep the interest.

This muted picking riff is so cool. The drummer beat works so well. What a haunting atmosphere. And yes these brasse are connected to elephants. Now I know where this title came from.
I think this songs genre is rather post rock since it reminds me a lot of God is an Astronaut, Mew, M83 and stuff...

Ha, yeah, microphones can get incredibly expensive... Love how you approached the challenge! The outcome is also very pleasant to listen to, and I can hear why you gabe the song its name. Great work!

Yup this is really lovely! sets out a really cool soundcape all the sounds come together! really cool listen

The intro was gorgeous right from the start but when those drums kicked in it elevated the piece to something else. The elephant noises add an interesting edge. This is awesome, great work on the challenge!

I love it when the accents shift over the beat (if this describes the feeling I get from the tune)
@aeye Feb 2022
I love that guitar. It's mysterious and has such a nice shiny quality to it.
@kenmattsson Feb 2022
Very cool mix you have here! Love the elephant trumping at the end.

what an interesting soundscape- had no idea that was particularly interesting microphone in your avatar - however you got on this interesting sonic journey, with elephant and all, it really delivers. Great driving beat behind it and it stays really engaging and warm all the way thru. Sounds like a great soundtrack to .... something out of doors on the Serengeti or something?....
