Feb 2022 indie-pop
Is it just me or does mixing fatigue set in quicker in the second half of FAWM? Really slogged through this. The title refers to the fact that my singing teacher is having us concentrate on breathing for the next few weeks because apparently I've been doing that wrong for 40 years.
wanna learn how to breathe
full of air from the sea
to meet that need
i could float to the city
with the wind in its sails
where the morning people
(i’m still fuzzy on the details)
learned how to people
i can try to breathe in
if you try to breathe out
try again, try again
you can try again, try again
go buy a guitar for the elegant world
so it can sing to the cloud
here in my mouth lives a horrible dirge
just can’t wait to come out
wanna learn how to breathe
good and pure
like a succulent risen perfectly
one with its environment
wanna sink my nails
fill ‘em up with the soil
never went off the rails
never went on the boil

Enjoyed this. Loads of elements to delight in - the vocal melody really drew me in particularly. Top notch bass work here too. Another good 'un!
@max Feb 2022
Love it!
@hanley Feb 2022
Yeh, fuzzy-licious!
Brilliantly catchy melodic ideas, each section leads so well into the next.
Particularly love the 'sing to the cloud' lyric, haha! Nice sparse use of vocal harmonies too, but I'd love to hear more in there. And that bass drives the whole thing along nicely.

I imagine being told you're breathing wrong helps a bunch for anxiety. This is another great tune though. It has a real quintessentially British guitar pop feel, and I'm envious of your ability to make catchy vocal hooks that avoid the obvious well-trodden path that I seem to always fall into. I seem to be going through very similar "stages of FAWM" to you this year. Even getting the level balance right has become a struggle. I guess that's why (those) reference tracks (that I've not been using) are so important.
@sailingmagpie Feb 2022
The slight fuzziness on the bass is enjoyable and the jangly 80s indie guitars are great. They really propel the track along. Super catchy chorus too!
@tawny249 Feb 2022
I grok this. I have breathing issues for many reasons when singing, one of which is allergies...damned immune system. ^_^;; Very melodic and catchy. This flows very naturally and easily. Love how the chorus soars up right before you mention clouds. Also any song that has "learned how to people" in the lyrics gets bonus points.

Breathing…yeah still managing to do that wrong myself. Enjoying the energy in the rhythm section. Great melody and phrasing in the verse. Loved the harmonies on the chorus …brings another level of catchiness. Fun one!
@thelowestbitter Feb 2022
Love how jangly those guitars are, and this is super catchy in general, especially that "I can try to breathe in, if you try to breathe out, try again" part (pre-chorus?). As others have pointed out the bass is great. Really liked this.
@adforperu Feb 2022
Mixing fatigue, definitely. It's like......"my voice, AGAIN?!". Alas, you've not fallen foul to it here, this is incredibly catchy. I like you move out of that sort of Strokes-y indie feel into something far more indie-pop in the chorus.
@alyxanderjames Feb 2022
This turned out great! That chorus is SO CATCHY. The whole thing is just brilliant, this might be one of my favorites I've listed to this FAWM.
@owl Feb 2022
The soaring melody on the chorus is perfect, I could listen to that melody forever. I love the title/concept. Love the fuzzy bass part too! BRB gonna listen to this chorus another ten times before listening to anything else.
@karlsburg25 Feb 2022
Ha ha the joys of a proper singing teacher. I always forget things like breathing when i'm teaching ;-) . Its a really brilliantly catchy tune with so much going on. Maybe you should play it to your singing teacher. The harmonies are just gorgeous.
@ryuu Feb 2022
This has a nice, fun bouncy feel and a great bassline!
@paulh1237 Feb 2022
I love the section where people try to breathe in various directions the best. Some damn fine chords that be. Great melodic line the "buy a guitar for the elegant world". I agree, guitars are elegant.
@jibbidy34 Feb 2022
Yeah! I really enjoyed this. I love a good bit of feel good indie rock! This sounded really well mixed to my ears I loved those layered harmonies too… ear candy!
@lcad Feb 2022
Solid track, well played and sung. Love the title, it's a great opener for the verses and vocals sound lovely as usual!
@mjv Feb 2022
getting some great strokes vibes from the guitar part!
@w1n Feb 2022
Really great and catchy tune, while the vocals are great throughout, especially love it when the backing vocals harmonies in the Go buy a guitar part kick in. But heavy on the compression on the overheards/cymbals, and the fuzz bass feels too off center for my taste. But the song is super catchy, so well worth revisiting after FAWM for some polish
@vomvorton Feb 2022
Fuzzy bass on this one is sounding great! Love the big hooks you've crammed into all the different sections, I swear each one is catchier than the last. That melodic inventiveness really works well with the "classic rock power trio" instrumentation you've got going on with this one. Sounds like a live favourite!
@mikeskliar Feb 2022
This is really well done! so many great lines (love the 'still fuzzy on the details', 'i can try to breathe in if you try to breathe out' and 'buy a guitar for the elegent world, so it can sing to a cloud'. great production, really tight-sounding and dynamic. great work!
