Skirmish prompt: include the phrase 'overcome yourself' or was it overcome myself? Anyway I felt I had a duty to take a rebellious antithetical approach rather than internalise it for myself, as I think about that a lot on my bed of 'failure' and don't have much to say otherwise.
Anti-disableism/ableism rant was the obvious obvious answer, turning the tables on 'overcoming your disability' frequently patronising, terrifying or just plain shitty saying. People are scared of having to do anything to help disabled people or don't think we're worth it. We're human beings though and everyone has needs.
I am DME autistic - my children are not quite at opposite ends in cognitive terms but one's at special school and the other could potentially go to a Russel Group university. That would be a weird one for me, I wouldn't have chosen it if I could, but I support him in making his own decisions. I'm proud of him. And his sister too. We all have a right to live and be heard & helped regardless, there's a lot about 'achievement' or 'merit' that is a genuinely broken evil mythology in my mind! I am also involved in disability activism on twitter, and it's more that that and physical impairments and differences and the social model of disability in that respect that I have in mind. Try looking at the hashtag #AbledsAreWeird for more information and enlightenment about the difficult aspects of other people's attitudes to disability. https://twitter.com/i/events/1106920400103964672?lang=en
Chorus: Get over yourself. Overcome yourself!
No need to run
From disability:
Everyone has needs
Up and down, you see!
(chorus)
Please no random questions
like 'what happened?' or about sex.
(chorus?)
Closed captions for the deaf, right?
Good good for so many reasons!
(chorus)Overcome yourself; get over yourself!
Tight spaces & steps are an obstacle;
Prejudicial attitudes and judgmental!
(chorus) Get over yourself; overcome yourself!
You make yourself ill
Striving for perfection
King o'the hill, no
Capitalist deception!?
(chorus) Get over yourself! Overcome yourself!
If Stephen Hawking
Cuddna get in your front entrance
Your precious building
Aint that important
(chorus) Get over yourself! Overcome yourself!
Afraid to be stupid, afraid to be weak:
What use are you to anyone
If we're sub-standard freaks!?
Chorus: Get over yourself! overcome yourself!
If Stephen Hawking
Cun't get in your front entrance
Your precious building
Aint that important
Afraid to be stupid, afraid to be weak:
What use are you to anyone
If we're sub-standard freaks!?
Break a leg! Break a leg! Break a leg! Break a leg!
Break a leg! Break a leg! Break a leg! Break a leg!

Hell. Yes. All of this. I want to hear this with screamy punk vocals and heavy guitar! I don't know if that's what you had in mind but it's what seemed natural to me.

Love this - the structure and the message that comes through is strong. And the ending is quite powerful - I think there is a good cadence here.

I'm not sure about the rhythm - I keep messing about with it and tripping over it. Too many polysyllabic words and thoughts that don't quite fit the space! Story of my life! But thank-you @porrectus

Quite a message, I like the performance reference at the end. The lyrics have great rhythm. Well done.
