This is another song that came from a handful of lines that I wrote last year. But I think after scrubbing, rewriting, reworking, massaging and polishing this over the past week… I kinda don’t think much of those original lines are even in here anymore.
So the song is basically a metaphor and there’s a couple of words that are particularly meaningful to me that I’d like to point out… “star stuff”
I have another set of lyrics I’m trying to clean up that is based on the idea that we’re all made up of star stuff. You know at the smallest level we’re all made up of carbon and other elements that stars are made of. Anyway the term “star stuff” is a metaphor for two people.
I really, really like how this turned out and I’ve been feeling a surge of creativity as of late. I think it’s because… well I think the influence of people here who I think are just so dang talented who have helped me tap into that well. ️
my trajectory somehow was taken off course
but I’ve seen a glimpse to be in your orbit
From a daydream swirling along
just outside your atmosphere
twirling round your gravity
push pull gently influence oceans
elliptical path reflecting
soft light on your face
chorus 2x
i can dream
wish i could be
in your orbit
be your satellite
I imagine two celestial bodies
swirling and twirling in space
figure eight asterisk blurred star stuff whirling
flirting energy make tidal forces
move in and out
in and out
in and out
chorus: x2
i can dream
wish i could be
in your orbit
be your satellite
solo
chorus: x2
i can dream
wish i could be
in your orbit
be your satellite
Tidal forces
Move in and out
Two celestial bodies
Wish i could be
In your orbit
Satellite
Blurred star stuff whirling

I'm glad fawm automatically brought me to your sweet, dreamy piece. Great production of the instruments - the guitar is such an earthy instrument and I like how it plays against the celestial theme. I like the celestial bodies / tidal forces lyrics. And that drifting ending! So nice!

The rhythms of the little hammer ons and pull offs in the chords move the song along. The lyrics are sweet, and that solo has a really great contrast between the acoustic and the fuzzy electric. For some moments, it reminded me of the solo from Natalie Merchant’s Carnival, which is one of my all time favorite solos for emotional content.

I like the gentle feel of this song; particularly the guitar parts and your quiet vocals. Nice subdued guitar solo. Great imagery and metaphors in the lyrics.

I have no idea if it was intentional, but the super close, dry vocals are an unexpected choice for a song like this, particularly because the background has more spaciness. The really quiet background vocals at the end is also a really cool touch.
Good groove on the guitar, too.

this is very pretty. The space in it (no pun intended) is really nice. the huge gravitational forces are a perfect metaphor for the blown out proportions feelings you capture so well.

Beautiful arrangement! Every part fits perfectly. I really dig the mellow indie-rock feel and space-themed lyrics. This is a keeper.

WHOA! Are we on the same wavelength or what?! We are over here existing on parallel planes something. Thank you so much for stumbling upon Satellite and sharing Planet and Moon with me. I obviously LOVE your lyrics, and the vibe is so dreamy, you've created a song that is out of this world. :)

Really nice song, great lyrics and metaphor.
I really like the swelling guitar that comes in and out throughout.
I can imagine the final version of this. Spacious and a bit lonely.
@taracraig Feb 2022
This is great! The chorus is so catchy and I love the metaphor of being in someone's orbit as their satellite. The verses are full of star stuff goodness, wonderful imagery and use of metaphor throughout. Great performance and production.

Once again, the quality of your voice is so lovely, so delicate.
I was thinking what it would sound like with a bit more reverb on the vocals (and maybe stacked), but then I realized that you being so close gives the song a very intimate vibe. And whenever your voice breaks slightly, it elevates that feeling to another level. Reminds me of Kintsugi.
Very nice production and great addition to my Rainy Sunday Easy Listening playlist :)

Nice poetic lyrics with all of the space references. Laid-back vibe fits it well. The rhythmic guitar contracts nicely with the spacier electric parts.
@jessespillane Feb 2022
Great lead guitar swells in this! There is a cool contrasting element between the rhythm guitars busy vs the laid back swells. It reminded me of some great 90s pop-rock. It almost had a Toad and The Wet Sprocket kind of vibe that I enjoy.
@quork Feb 2022
This is really nice. Re mid-side recording, the guitar is full and sits nicely in the mix. Your vocals also sound amazing.
@dzdandcunfsd Feb 2022
This is really gorgeous! and a great recording/orchestration. I too really love that synthy line. The drumming also is nice it actually sounds human.. Are those pads or did you just program it all? I've seen your studio pic and don't think you had room for drums in your cubby :D
and yup, we are all just stardust, great lyric and vocal as well.. you should be very happy with this one.
@alyxanderjames Feb 2022
This is really lovely, Wren! The gentle delivery suits the theme really well. :)
@elesimo Feb 2022
I love the synth sound going on, sounds very dreamy and fitting to the theme. The vocal "ooh" in the outro sounds great too! This is a really good song, I love the production. Really nice!
@outinpublicdrummer Feb 2022
I love the combo grainy acoustic strums and slow pad sounds <3 the vocals are so good! Great indie vibes
@gardeningangel1 Feb 2022
The instrumentation is so nice with that spacey (synth? has an e-bow feel) and the lead guitar arriving at the perfect moment. Nice mellow groove. Etheric vocal layers. Love the metaphor and the fact (we really ARE made of stars!). Gravitational pull between souls... "figure eight asterisk blurred star stuff whirling/flirting energy make tidal forces"... there is a longing tempered by wonder at the vast intimacy of it all. Gorgeous.

Your gentle vocals are pleasing to listen to. Nice sentimental song too.
