I actually wrote this chord pattern and melody last year and I have been trying to be inspired to write lyrics ever since. Today I woke up with this lyric idea about a groove that we wear down deeper and deeper every day. I liked the double meaning of "groove", and then I saw that worked will for the weekly challenge!
Sorry that the drum track is awful and annoying. I really don't know how to do that yet, but it sounded too bare with no percussion.
Verse 1
On and on you go.
What are you tryna prove,
Winding along this well known track?
It grinds you down, deeper in the groove
and always brings you right on back.
So what if you're back?
Chorus
Running on this old worn trail
Your feet are pounding on the ground
You think you're groovin' along, but you are wrong.
You only know the long way 'round.
Verse 2
Slogging through the mud
In prints you've made before,
finding footing, trying not to slip.
Is there a faster way to get through this course,
lift your spirits up and love the trip? Oh, what at trip!
Bridge:
You found your groove and you dig it every day.
It makes you move. It's a rut but you play it anyway.
Verse 3
All I know is one step follows one
and hurdles will come up every time.
All I can say is you'll fight if you don't run.
That's nature's way to reach that line, that finish line.

This is a great piano and vocal song. Great lyrics and an excellent verse 2 great imagery. I just love it.
Another great song.
Hey if you want to do a collab some time.. I would love to add some bass and guitar. No pressure. Excellent stuff

Oh man, what a chorus! I love it. I can't count the number of times where I'm in the zone, running on habit and familiarity, only to find out much later that I've been doing things the hard way all along.
I think we can all relate.

This song sounds like a metaphor for trying to write yet another song! Maybe this is the soundtrack for FAWM.
I love the line "You only know the long way around."

Beautifully written. Cute song with a serious theme.

Great imagery here in the lyrics -- "slogging through the mud in prints you've made before" I think we've all been there before, it's specific but universal at the same time. I saw one of your influences is Billy Joel and this fits very well in his genre of music.
