Feb 2022 minor alternative dreampop rock maybe i-dont-know-what-genre-this-is
Something different and experimental from me this time. I'm a novice at production compared to so many on here, but I had some fun playing with master clocks/synth arpeggiation, MIDI programming for drums and bass, and excessive amounts of reverb. Also gratuitously singing a high D-flat at 2:42 in a voice like the siren from Frozen 2 (probably waking my kids up in the process).
We seek something
To keep us running
Or keep us numbing
When we are worn
We seek pleasure
So we will never
Be forced to measure
What we have borne
Yet truly clear eyes can look
And see the end of this book
And renew and push on through ‘til then
If only
We weren’t so lonely
Perhaps we slowly
Might come to see
We labor
Our lives are vapor
Yet we are made for
Eternity
So give me clear eyes to look
And see the end of this book
And renew and push on through ‘til then

You’ve chosen some great sounds that work together beautifully. I like the pulse that audibly starts and ends the piece, a through-line that binds it all together. I liked the detail of the hi hat as an element of orchestration that did its job of adding sparkle and then disappeared. Vocals are great; loved the octave doubling, and the descant is amazing. You’ve got impressive range!
@crisp1 Mar 2022
Whatever you did in the production makes your voice feel like it's floating in space surrounded by the stars and planets -- it's a very cool effect. Really magical when you hit the oohs and aahs.
@danvaillancourt Mar 2022
Nice pulsing accompaniment. Beautiful soaring vocal and love the treatment and effects. Slow dynamic build is great. And the high backing vox are great. wow.
@tukayandryan Mar 2022
This is amazing. Stunning vocals that soar over the backing instrumentation with ease. Your production is so good too - don't underestimate your talents! Just another delightful listen. Brilliant dynamics. Those harmonies are luuusshhh.
@leepat Feb 2022
this is the frozen genre :)
tasteful drum programming and build - I dig that stuttering opening synth.
vocals are of course sublime!
@philnorman Feb 2022
Stunningly good. The slow build and release is just right. A+
@celineellis Feb 2022
oh this is absolutely SUBLIME!!!! lyrically, vocally, musically, the build, the tension, the release, the arrangement, the harmonies, the whole vibe of this is just *insert word thats better than sublime*. this most definitely can take another verse and an absolutely explosive chorus at the end. i was left wanting more, more of the same, more crescendo, more sublimity.
@jeff9 Feb 2022
This is really special. The sonic experience is extraordinarily moving and clearly it is resonating big time with a lot of other listeners, too. I'm with @oswlek . How can you not be a pro with this talent?
@oswlek Feb 2022
Stunning. Absolutely floored. I'm literally catching my breath this such a visceral experience. Holy goodness, Hannah. Why aren't you doing this for a living? This is beyond words.
The pulsing synth is so striking, as are you chord choices during the verses. That alone would have my full attention, but then add you brilliant melody and gorgeous vocals? It's a truly transcendent musical experience. And that's just the first 30 seconds!
Great melodic change in the first chorus, and limiting the percussion to just the kick in V2 is just right. Perfect build during C2 and the switch to major is just glorious. Incredible vocal arrangement and performance. I'm listening again as I type this and I have tears in my ears.
My only complaint is that it is too short! I would have eagerly stuck around for another verse and chorus. I guess I'll just have to play it for a 3rd time.
Seriously, I'm stunned. You are a star, Hannah. A superstar.
@drewhottmann Feb 2022
I love the vulnerability you bring to that first verse.
The payoff in the back third with your soaring vocals is massive. Eat your heart out, Seal.
The timbres you chose for the tone of the lyrics perfectly. Fantastic.
@splittybooms Feb 2022
Welp I'm sold immediately with that elec piano.
Intro has awesome atmosphere - dreamy, full of space, and make me interested and intrigued about what direction the rest of the song will take.
"Novice"??? Nah.
Excellent choices made throughout, both production and vocal-wise.
I like the hard kick against this warm soft bedding-like feel of the pads/piano - that's a great move. Understated and simple drums work well so the focus stays on these vocals.
And good grief - those vocals!
Beautiful singing voice and vocal melodies; wow they really take off!
Yeah this is beautiful and made even moreso by the positive and uplifting lyrics that make me look up and forward...though my eyes haven't been clear for ages and my perseverance (i even had to look how to spell it cause I'd forgotten lol) is non-existent. But this track injects some hope, almost forcefully due to these on-high vocals. Wow they really soar.
Awesome stuff!
@adforperu Feb 2022
Oooh, definitely getting a contemporary pop vibe from this, like Halsey or something. That big jump into the minor chord just after 2 minutes is such a joyous moment. The wordless background vocal is so very impressive!
@musicsongwriter Feb 2022
Very beautiful song with cool instrumental backing and amazing singing. Creates a very special impression. I can imagine it in a movie.
@dasbinky Feb 2022
The tension builds perfectly here, from that opening drone and the movement in the melody up through the drum entry. Love what you're doing with the harmonies. Just a super cool tune all around.
@fonte Feb 2022
I'm back again. So so good.
@fonte Feb 2022
Production is INSANE on this, you're crazy! Novice or not, it sounds AMAZING. You let the song and vocal come through. The instruments/sounds all work well together. Could be on the radio no messing. Your voice is RIDICULOUSLY good. Really enjoyed everything about this.
@radiobenedetto Feb 2022
Forgot how much I needed your voice back in my life. So great. When you come in with the voice of the siren it’s rhapdodic. The pay off is great and we’ll worth the wait but I wonder if giving us a taste of that earlier in the piece the bringing down again and going even bigger at the end would be even more satisfying. Any way you slice it, more if your singing is a good thing. Good job with the midi experimentation.
@rgarv100 Feb 2022
wow lovely voice. really love the piano sound on this.
@mood Feb 2022
Your vocals are top notch. I'm cooking something up for a collab. I'll let you know.
@scottlake Feb 2022
Bliss
@nuchoyce Feb 2022
The production on here is great! You allowed the song to build. Strong lyrics followed by amazing vocals. Harmonys and BGV is what I love most about singing and you nailed it.
@b3nut Feb 2022
I don't think the reverb is excessive at all, especially for this...really makes it more like good dreampop...really highlights your angelic vocals here. Gorgeous track!
@jacobeverettwallace Feb 2022
Yeah! This is my kinda vibe! Love the dark minor feel. Gorgeous vocals. Your phrasing is on point. That high note gave me goosebumps. Well done!
@chroes Feb 2022
A beautiful synth arp you got there. Harmonies are stellar in this one, as is the use of reverb/delay. Your vocals are amazing, both in their rhythm and their strikingly clear delivery. Imho there's just a tiny bit of mastering left to do, like maybe glue the whole track a bit more. Otherwise - this is perfection!
@leslie Feb 2022
This is beautiful. I adore the melody lines dropping down and those sharp punctuated cadences. Gah, and your siren vox is spectacular. Loved the production, too. It's a whole world inside a song. Bravo!
@richaaaay Feb 2022
Wow…production sounds amazing . Such a soundscape you’ve created. A perfect backdrop for your vocals to soar…and man oh man do they soar!
@geoff61 Feb 2022
Production is sound, beautiful vocal (obviously) nice vocal line too, only crit is maybe the lyric is a little vague, verses feel a little forced, I assume that the question is to the Almighty. Overall though very nice.
@davidtaro Feb 2022
Woah, those high notes on the BVs! That's just showing off really :D
The production's cracking. Everything's really crisp and clear (particularly the drums and synths) and the mix is spot on. That thrumming underlying synth is really well chosen to give a sense of drama and propels the song forward. Just wonderful work, Hannah!!
@serene123 Feb 2022
Should say behind on commenting
@serene123 Feb 2022
Crikey this is is so so good.. loving those high notes so much and all your experimenting.. it has actually inspired me to experiment a bit more myself!! Midi here I come.. yikes... That was epic.. I'm loving all your music. I'm just being on commenting.. let me know how I can keep up with your music outside of fawm please!
@wylddandelyon Feb 2022
This was really pretty! Keep on experimenting, so far it's working.
We are made for eternity indeed.
@majordanby Feb 2022
Ooh, you’ve managed to get a really professional sound which you’ve restrained beautifully. Your voice is stunning on this one. It really shows off your range and control. I know that this is a new direction but I think you’ve really stumbled onto something here! I bet you get a load of praise in your comments with this one. Superb.
