Feb 2022 acoustic ska-punk one-take
Inspired by the third-wave ska of my youth, so pretend there's Dicky Barrett and trumpets.
I called the radio station
when I went to jail
I had one chance to ask 'em to jump, jive an’ wail
and say it's going out to you know who
you'll know what to do
But you got tired of waiting
and went back to bed
fell asleep in your prom dress with a crown on your head
and when the music began to play
you were far away
I hope you dreamed about dancing with somebody nice
I hope the moon was as big as your eyes
I hope it gave you the sweetest surprise
I hope you were dancing with somebody nice
Now they're playing our song
but it don't mean a thing
I ain't got the heart and I ain't got the swing
I can fill my card every night
still I don't get it right
so I follow the steps
got the flame on my shoes
chain on my wallet, the whole world to lose
I won't put you through that again
you're not mine to win
I hope that you're dancing with somebody nice
I hope the moon is as big as your eyes
I hope it gives you the sweetest surprise
I hope you're dancing with somebody nice
I hope you're dancing with somebody nice
with somebody nice
with somebody nice

This whole song is just awesome. It has a fantastic narrative and it leaves me with all kinds of questions. And it is ear wormy as all get out, with a killer hook in that chorus.

Those first two verses are genius! What a way to start a song - the narrator in jail, the crush snoozing in her glad-rags.

Could be a radio hit if you added those horns!

Fun stuff! Shows off some genre versatility, too.

This song is so good! Sounds like a hit already- i really enjoyed it. Good melody and very catchy. :)
The lyrics are great too I love the story of it at first and the hope youre dancing somebody nice is such a bittersweet line.

I really like this. I like the sentiment ("I screwed up but I still wish you well") and the tune and guitar and of course your voice.

Got a great beat going there Summer, shame I don't play saxophone. You are right about wanting some horns on a backing track.
