I've seen the meme going around that says something like "Old punks don't die, they just stand further back." That was bouncing around in my head, and it came out as this song. I had fun playing around with different guitar sounds, and I decided that I needed to have an homage to the Ramones at the end.
Old Punks Don't Die
Verse 1
We were there at CBGBs
Or the 9:30 down in DC.
Saw the Ramones or the Clash, Black Flag or Fugazi,
Bought 'em on vinyl then cassette then CD,
Then one more time on fucking MP3.
I was there; you can take it from me...
Chorus
Old punks don't die. We just stand in the back.
Yeah, we're not in the mosh pit,
But we're not taking your shit.
Old punks don't die.
Verse 2
Some wore mohawks and leather and chains,
And some had a style of their own.
I went to every thrift shop I could,
Every Army/Navy I'd ever known
To get a look that was mine alone.
Our style screamed like a megaphone.
Chorus
Verse 3
Now we still like to wear our Doc Martens
To the office as a subtle sign
That our punk days are never behind us
Even if we give up cheap beer for good wine.
The music will always be our lifeline.
Crank it up, and everything is fine!
Chorus
Outro
Gabba gabba, hey ho! Gabba gabba, hey ho!
Let's go!

TRUTH!

Love the snotty vocals! Reminds me a little of Jello Biafra and the singer from Dead Milkmen. Great anthem for the punx with the memory foam inserts

This is just so much fun - I love all the nostalgic references, the attitude, the contrasts you play with on guitar, the energy. I'm thoroughly entertained!

Great energy and lyrics! Like the witty banter.

nice!!! and a shout out to not just CBGB's but also the 9:30, which I went to both in its old location and later when they moved (I was in the DC area from like 1982-85). Actually wasn't much of a punk music guy, but I appreciate the sentiment- this is a fun and entertaining song! and nice Ramones shout at the end!
