Feb 2022 chill experimental weird 5 4
I decided to write a song in a weird time signature today. Playing around with this 5/4 beat, I felt it would be cool as a chill song.
Then I remembered I had some rough ideas about time passing and how it's always too slow or too fast, and how it often felt way too slow during quarantine. I thought the weird time signature combined with the chill downtempo vibe suited the theme well so I ran with it.
Still a demo.
Picture me
Locked in a movie
Pacing up and down
Shots fading in and out
All this stillness
Can feel so restless
It’s a noisy silence
Until I’m free again
Until then
I sit here
Endlessly waiting
Endlessly waiting
Endlessly waiting
Endlessly waiting
Endlessly waiting
Time’s a tease
Overstays
Its welcome
When it’s stared in the face
Then it passes
Just when you try
To make it stay
Then it’s too late
Until then
You sit here
Endlessly waiting
Endlessly waiting
Endlessly waiting
Endlessly waiting
Endlessly waiting

Oooh, such a nice feel from this right from the get-go. All the elements combine very pleasantly and make you just want to close your eyes and bob your head (gently). Had to listen twice!
Less traditional time signatures intimidate me, and that's something that I should confront in the near future. Well done!

After working in 5/4 for the first time this year, it doesn't sound so awkward anymore. I think it's all about finding the right rhythm and vocal phrasing. Which you did here. I can imagine this playing on the radio without people feeling something awkward. The flow is great!

This is gorgeous and sumptuous. Such a rich ear candy listen. Happy ears here. :)

I love how you've made the 5/4 flow behave itself. The edginess in the (kind of) hesitant background beat from the hats is such a lovely counterpoint to your effortless sounding vocal. Fabulous production and performance. Instant watchlist!

the 5/4 gives an unsettling awareness of the variables in the passage of time.

Yeah the Groove is cool.
I really like the smooth synths and the string sections.
Your voice is really lovely and well suited for this type of tune.
The production is super clean and professional.
A Delicious listen, Thanks.

I've never dared write in anything but 3/4 or 4/4, but this 5/4 flows so effortlessly; I can count it out, but it sounds so natural here. More importantly, the music is lush and gorgeous, and your voice too. This has a luxurious, sumptuous beauty that is absolutely hypnotizing, and I could listen to repetitions of the chorus forever. Pretty darn stunning!

Really pretty, the instrumental parts are engaging, the vocal is lovely.
Nice visuals, I can picture a movie of this protagonist wandering from room to room, maybe, cutting between moments.
And what is she waiting for? We don’t know, and it’s not important, it’s the feeling of this wait that we get from the song.

Good grief - the mix on this is...i dunno, the word 'immaculate' comes to mind, honestly.
Sounds so good in my headphones.
If I didn't read the liners, I wouldn't have even noticed the time sig...its just so airy and wide that I just sway back and forth to the vibe itself more than the beat.
Beautiful vocals!
Love everything going on musically - the piano, the strings panned to the left, the accent vocals to the right...the swelling synth pad, and the great choice of less-is-more when it came to the drums - they are so effective under all the wonderful music panned all over.
And that voice is coming through so clear and lovely.
Vocal melody itself kinda puts me in this pleasant lull during the vamp.
Wow, you say this is still a DEMO???
Phew...can't imagine this finished. Its READY as-is for this listener.

Hmm I am not sure how immediately turned into “immoderately” - I guess spellcheck and I are in a fight today… :)

I immoderately loved this song and it only got better. Really cool concept and lovely production. The instruments sound great with your voice!

Ooo, I really like the vibe of this track. Your singing is great here and the production is awesome. Has a really nice tone! I just found out a song I love is in 5/4 (couldn't tell before) and ya the time signature has a great feel. Works very well on this track!

The time signature works. It’s a cool track. Part of the synth melody reminds me a little of Stranger Things. Good one, Sherry!
