This one is a true story, except there is some lyrical license in the "three decades". That's an approximation.
Mingling Ashes
Mike Delaney, FAWM22-5
An Irishman from Boston
And a French woman from Waltham
Raised two kids on Dorchester Bay
Lots of boating and drinking
But a relationship sinking
After thirty years it was a parting of ways
Chorus:
Three decades to meet
Three decades to play
Three decades apart
And mingling ashes in Dorchester Bay.
She went back to Waltham
He headed for Florida
They divorced and went separate ways.
She had so many kinfolk
He had a new family
Grew old, far from Dorchester Bay.
Chorus
Bridge:
They died around the same year
And they both wanted cremation
And their ashes spread in Dorchester Bay
Where they toasted with highballs and beers
It was a life of their own creation
And where they spent their happiest days
Chorus
Now I hike the low-tide sand spit
To visit Thompson Island
That’s right in Dorchester Bay
I can feel mom and dad
As their ashes mingle
Every time it’s a wonderful day
Chorus

What a wonderful story, nicely told, and the central concept/observation is wonderful. I'll make the same suggestion I made on another song about the chorus giving too much away at the beginning. Any chance you'd allow the last line of the chorus to change, so that when we first hear it it doesn't give away where the song is going?

Nice….just nice. So jealous of anyone that has fingerpicking abilities. Keep ‘‘em coming Mike!
