Feb 2022 skirmish s021522a rock
I thought this was a cool title. I've been dealing with a lot of anxiety and impostor syndrome lately so this was very much a good topic to explore.
Take a drag and watch the rain
Stuck in my own head again
What if it's all just pretend
Try to just put down my phone
Leave my racing thoughts alone
Gotta find a way back home
And I try
To clear my mind but it ain't working
And if I could overcome myself
Maybe I could be somebody else
Go to bed and lie awake
Waiting for another take
Feeling like I'm such a fake
Cause this is not my kind of vibe
I just wanna feel alive
Watching clouds form in the sky
And I try
To go inside but something's stalling
And if I could overcome myself
Maybe I could be somebody else
And I try
To change my mind but I keep running
And if I could overcome myself
Maybe I could be somebody else
Somebody else

Oh man, imposter syndrome is no joke, I'm in a spell of it myself changing jobs; hope this song was cathartic for you. It certainly sounds like you've pulled those feelings expertly into lyrics and your vocal vibes. Great harmonies, love when the music drops out on "somebody else", gives it some drama. The key solo is perfect. This is a song that could get into your head very easily.

Love this! Bopping my head to the music but thinking about the words. Love that organ solo and all of the excellent musicianship and singing too. As always, great production as well. I can relate to the lyrics.

This would be superb on any measure, but amplified by having done it in an hour - it's outstanding. Lyrically and melodically excellent and delivered beautifully. I've no idea how you do something so sophisticated in an hour - even the drum breaks and fills would take me half the time. Very nicely done!

It's so impressive that you created such a full song in a skirmish. Massively relatable lyrics and music that makes you want to move with interesting melody and harmony decisions. This is awesome.
@kahlo2013 Feb 2022
Fantastic rocking response to this skirmish! Love the grove and the layers vocals! Great guitars. I really love your lyrics on this and the relatable catchy chorus!!!
@johnstaples Feb 2022
Damn, this is some solid af rock! You really bring the joy of big, heavy guitar sounds! And the contrast of your sweet vocals is perfect! The lyrics are so tight! The whole thing is just outstanding!
@chroes Feb 2022
Mh, amazing instruments in this work. Vocals are stunning as well, sit so nicely in the mix. Lyrics... I can relate too well to those. Your songs have a wonderful rhythm in the vocals especially, makes me envious! Awesome job!
@br0th3rh00d Feb 2022
I love this! Great sound! Definitely relatable as well, and the gap between outdoors escapism and returning to home. I'm much less accomplished and took a rebellious antithetical approach to the prompt; felt like I had a duty to!
@sumnersloane Feb 2022
Robyn - this is really great. You always have nice hooks. And I think the organ is fantastic.
@berni1954 Feb 2022
Melodic rock and a fine female vocalist - one of my favourite genres.
This was a well crafted song. We all go through these phases of self doubt. I was incredibly shy as an adolescent until I got into amateur theatre. I could go out on stage as a character, because I wasn't being me. Slowly, I learned that the only way that was possible was that the "me" who went on stage was the true me (whoever I was playing) and I learned that "faking it" is often a preview to BEING it. On the strength of this song, you do NOT need to worry that you are faking anything.
@mikeb Feb 2022
Solid rhythm section - drums, bass and guitar - provide a perfect background for the vocal performance. Organ lead was unexpected and a nice touch!
@danvaillancourt Feb 2022
Great catchy melody. Nice driving fuzzed out guitar and beat. Cool vocal effects. Nice!
@sheilerk Feb 2022
I hope this isn't the sort of thing you're feeling impostery about, because somebody else wouldn't have knocked this out of the park like you did! But, that said, I can very much relate. I just wish I could do what you do musically! This is SO good!!
@tippyteapot Feb 2022
Love it. It has a mid 90s rock vibe to me. I can almost see thr music video. Lotta sunshine out of the music, but the angsty lyrics are behind the shades.
@rwhosings Feb 2022
I feel this deeply today.
I love seeing other songwriters tackle this topic. I love the lyrical moments in this. Images like "something's stalling" are very cool. I'm all about visualizing how things in my brain feel. That synth organ solo was dope!
@coolparadiso Feb 2022
this is and you are for real and that's good!! lovely vox something Sonja Kristina about this (if you have not heard curved air especially back street luv you must) really well done and an important topic!
@moonraccoon Feb 2022
"What if it's all just pretend" has informed many a sleepless night. This sounds like a good way to banish those feelings; hard edged but relaxed vibe, with a catchy tune and a great voice. The organ solo was pretty rad, too.
@gm7 Feb 2022
Great lyrics with a heavy message. Love the addition of the organ (B3 sound)
You are the best in my books!
@ductapeguy Feb 2022
How can you hit a triple at each at bat? This is killer RAWK, and setting an internal dialogue to a pop-punk groove is brilliant. You RAWK Robyn.
@keithcuts Feb 2022
“Overcome myself be somebody else “ slick twist of words Fire.
Track sounds great and the words and delivery back your angsty self reflection very nicely
Awesome!
@andygetch Feb 2022
Well this song (and artist IMHO) is all kinds of good. I love and can absolutely relate to the message in the lyric. The last two years have been rough and a strain on everyone. I like the idea of facing it and feeling it.
@zeekle1998 Feb 2022
Very cool. Loving the organ going on. I can certainly identify with the imposter syndrome. Nice work.
@ajna1960 Feb 2022
Oh cool semi 60s vibe folk rock feel song. Love it :) There's a band it reminds me of, but I can't think of their name this late at night lol
