I wrote this song in a Scottish bar and everyone was drinking heavily, and I am afraid when I woke up I had no idea what we were saying. But maybe this is close??? I guess this is Polysemy but I don't even know what that means or if it means a lot of things.
THE SCOTTISH SONG
By David Snyder
Note: It was hard to make out what the drinking Scots were saying, but I did my best.
V1
Molly had a pint of beer
she took up in her croft??
and wee Seamus wore his hat
with more than lobster pots?
and 'er the lads from Shetland??
wore kilts with tiny spots
blessed lads would keep them hanging?????
but preachers they were not
CH
and Ireland's not a motherland
and England it can rot
and you can go someday to Canada
if you're a handsome Scot
V2
If Molly had the wee thing???
and it's hidden in her socks
then Seamus will take off his kilt???
and show his Scottish locks???
it might be the Loch Ness monster
that is creepin to the docks
but before the night is over
he'll be at Molly's croft???
CH
and Ireland's not a motherland
and England it can rot
and you can go someday to Canada
if you're a handsome Scot
V3
Bha peant lionn aig Molly
thog i air a chroit ??
agus chuir Seamus 'eudach air
le barrachd air poitean ghiomach?
CH
agus chan e dùthaich mhàthaireil a th’ ann an Èirinn??
agus Sasainn faodaidh e grodadh???
agus faodaidh tu falbh uair-eigin do Chanada ???
mas e Albannach eireachdail a th’ annad?
???
CH
Aye!
and Ireland's not a motherland
and England it can rot
and you can go someday to Canada
if you're a handsome Scot

I love this!! Wow the instrumentation is great but the vocals are the best!!

Ha! This brilliant David. In South Africa we say that someone is speaking Swahili in this situation. Loved this

Love the fiddle in particular, weaving its way in and about the tune.

That was fun great atmosphere - I can see this as a movie scene - there we are in a bar and there's a "sesiun" on and people are chatting away and your narrator is simply listening in and noting what he's heard as he works on his anthropology thesis.
The lochs and locks bit is certainly an example of polysemy (at least aural if not visual polysemy)
I also like how you wove the tale of Molly and Seamus into it all.
PS Wasn't that Irish, rather than Scots Gaelic?

Totally agree with with @sheslin the contrast is awesome. I'd be happy to be in a room where this is being played live

Beautiful. I don't know anything about Scottish music, but I really like this one. The way of telling it half-singing, half-calling is also special for me. And it invites me to dance.

I don’t know which I love more, this song, or the story behind this song. It is just a delight! Beautiful playing and the vocals cut through the mix in just the right way. They actually are a lovely contrast to the instrumental track. This song will be a hoot to play out!
