A crazy busy week - I'm getting behind! Still, had fun trying (and failing) to stick to a one note melody.
Saw you in the corner by the yucca
While our friends were making supper
Thought the time had come
To pour my heart out for an audience
Said something along the lines of
“I’ve loved you, woah, for the longest time.”
Like the Joelster,
Took my heart out of its holster, but
I didn’t mean it, it wasn’t the truth
I was a liar in my youth.
You were wearing velvet
I was also wearing velvet
I’m inclined to look for signs like matching fabric
and I felt it was time to speak my mind
Say “It’s been you right down the line.”
Get it all out on the table,
While we’re young and while we’re able but
I was just joking I was chasing your smile
Cos I hadn’t seen it for a while
You know me – I get carried away
I’m as surprised as you by the things I say
I’ve listened to too many love songs
Fools rush in and get it dead wrong
I am headstrong
and I think that I’ll be heading up to bed
Forget everything I said
Because even if it sounded like some big confession,
I was only messing with you
I didn’t mean it
It wasn’t the truth
I was a liar in my youth
I was just tired and out of my mind
I blame it all on red red wine.
I didn’t mean it it wasn’t the truth
I was a liar in my youth.

Wow, what a powerful song. You really lay it on the line - it's a brave and, in a good way, brutally honest song - it makes up for all that lying :) The melody and arrangement are perfect (I can hear a cello creeping into the mix at some point). Great words of course, I particularly love:
Took my heart out of its holster
You were wearing velvet
I was also wearing velvet
I’m inclined to look for signs like matching fabric
I was just joking I was chasing your smile
Cos I hadn’t seen it for a while
Fabulous stuff. Looking forward to the next!

Absolutely love this! The lyrics are well written with some really unique and creative rhymes. Really like the vocal layers, great job!

I love the pacing of the lyrics and how they kinda of weave around like a stream of consciousness. The very narrow melody really worked well. Your chorus with the slower pace is a wonderful contrast. Really cool song!
