THE RIDE by Greg Klyma
There's a weariness in your eyes
You've gotten older, surprise surprise
Lied to yourself which wasn't wise
As you found out in time
Made your own curriculum
Tall tales and short fiction
But the best parties end in the kitchen
and some songs don't rhyme
You want to be satisfied
But the road don't owe you anything
Not even the ride
You had opportunities
And end that justified the means
A circle of friends and a ring of keys
Had 'em till you lost 'em
So ya hold on to what you can
Never know when you might need that again
Now pack it in a box with your other plans
It's moving day in Boston
Everybody knows you tried
But the road don't owe you anything
Not even the ride
There's a picture of you from back in the day
On the dresser where you keep your keepsakes
That's the bar you used to play
They tore that building down
You don't get out much anymore
Doesn't have the same allure
Now it's been so long you can't be sure
What it looks like downtown
There's a hustle on every side
But the road don't owe you anything
Not even the ride
Life is sad, but it's funny, too
You worry about money and what does that do?
Like spending years driving down
The world's longest dead end
There's a weariness when you're aware
Everyone knows nothing's fair
Everyone told ya you'd get here
No one said when
It was time you realized
But the road don't owe you anything
Not even the ride

Thanks @truetone After crossing the FAWM finish line on Saturday, I put all of my attention on a charity event that I was working on. On the level, it took some motivating to get in the swing of it with songwriting today. Thanks for checking out the song!

@prsongsmith I tend to think they'd all be great with a full band :D
But I'm home alone. I'll arrange, produce and record later. For now...
Write. Demo. Write again!!! ;)

First rate writing here! Love the way the first line of the chorus evolves over the course of the song. And your voice and guitar sound great (I think this one would sound great with a full band, too). Great stuff.
