I can't think who could have inspired these lyrics. Melody still to be written
Nobody told me
Well, how was I to know
I'm blissful in my ignorance
But I don't let it show
Nobody told me
So that makes it all okay
I like to keep my distance
From what they have to say
But there are things that I have learned
Like when to show concern
Or deny it all with scorn
So the truth is not returned
It's not as it seems
You're just wanton interferers
I'll deny what's going on
With a touch more smoke and mirrors
It's not as it seems
The real facts notwithstanding
No chance of coming clean
It's all a big misunderstanding
But I'll hold to my position
Despite my rash decisions
Never heard the word contrition
And I'll ignore all the derision
In my rich pastures of plenty
That honesty box is always empty
My morals they are shabby
I'm unkempt and I'm craggy
It makes you so unhappy
When I deny things more than Shaggy
And it wasn't me......
Nobody told me
Well, how was I to know

A seriously good excercise in a hear-no/see-no/say-no three monkeys hypocrisy. All the earlier stanzas paint such a picture for the listener/reader, that I wonder if it's necessary to have those "in my rich pastures...more than shaggy" stanzas in? I think the lyric ahs greater impact without the protagonist (?) suddenly admitting what has become obvious. I think the hypocrisy shows better if it sticks to the "how was I to know".

Can't think who that's about!

Great rhymes and gets more complex lyrically as it builds. Has great flow, I'm sure it's sound smooth and lovely with a melody.
