Feb 2022 folk ballad instrumental fipple fipple-flopple
I post this in keeping with my many rants that one should put EVERYTHING up on FAWM, even songs you might regard as a failure. This one isn't exactly a failure, but it's a dead end and as I got the melody not-quite-right, i.e. doesn't fit the words and can't be made to! So there will eventually be another version, this time with the melody right but also with the lyrics (which I haven't put up here).
https://fawm.org/songs/138128/ is the proper vocal version complete with lyrics, posted at the deathknock.
The recorder is my Aulos go-to alto, plastic, but with a pleasant reedy rather than flutey sound. But I need to exercise my breath control better!

Sorry it's taken me so long to get round to your fipple offerings, Tim!
This is absolutely beautiful. That Aulos sounds perfectly voiced for this one. As you say, it has a slightly reedy quality that helps it stand out in the mix.
Breath control? Sounded okay to me. :-)

Simply lovely and well performed! Yes, very worthy of a movie soundtrack but also a very pleasant listen for a sunset glass of wine by the river's edge or as a well-received song at an Irish session. A chameleon song of sorts...suits many occasions very well.

This is beautiful, Tim... It sounds so meaningful and melancholic... And I also agree on what was already mentioned before that it could be the soundtrack of a movie... To me, it conjured up some pictures of "Lord of the Rings" when the prince with some of his most loyal knights left the fortress in order to face the Orcs in the knowledge of dying just to prove to his father, the king, that he is not supposed to be ashamed of his son (by the way, one of the most poignant scenes in the "Lord of the Rings", at least as far as I am concerned)... You know how to conjure up emotions, Tim, be it by words or be it by an instrumental...

This is a really beautiful, there's a somber beauty to it but it doesn't feel "sad". I enjoy this from beginning to end, the piano works well behind the recorder.

Well, you certainly got something here. Sounds like a brilliant theme song for one of the Netflix series. Plus it's a grower. Most of your tracks are. The more you listen to them, the richer and familiar they sound. In a good way. Like I said: a brilliant theme song.

what is wrong with the melody? i find it a lovely irish pastoral air.

This is lovely. Wish I'd come across you sooner.
