Feb 2022 fake-band right-to-reply challenges drag-queen biab
Last year for the "Fake Band Challenge" I invented the character "Queen Beaver" - a slightly sleazy Drag Queen who fronts a blues band. This year she's back with a right to reply entry confronting all those early Beatles & Stones songs in which what the woman thought about all these male approaches to them was never taken into question. Thank goodness times have changed.
Instruments used:
8 String Baritone Ukulele & Early 60s primitive lead played on a Hartwood Revival (335 style) Guitar
Backing by Band in a Box
(E) You say you want to be my lover
Well don't you call me "baby" then?
Say you'll love me like no other
Do you think that you are superman?
Where's my choice in all (B7) this?
You should have asked for that (A7) kiss
Don't you think you're re(B7)miss?
Where's my choice in all (E) this?
Do you think that just repeating
Your demands will score a hit?
You'll just bore a girl that way
That kind of love is counterfeit
CHORUS & SOLO
I think you may need some practice, son
Seduction's not your style
If you make demands on a girl like me
You'll see me run a mile
CHORUS

I know those songs you're talking about - I love your sassy reply!
That solo has some bite to it, and the uke sounds sweet, too.
Good one!

How did I miss Queen Beaver last year?! I'm the one who came up with that moniker in the fake band thread! I'm overjoyed to hear she's a drag queen. This song has a classic feel, and I love the sentiment. Great vocal delivery, too! Any chance you could share the original Queen Beaver song with me?

I got nothin helpful to say but this whole tune was a party in a can, man.

So good! What a great song!
I think there's something about playing as a different band that makes us less perfectionist and more open. All the songs I've heard for the challenge are great, and this one is no exception! I love it!

Your vocal acting is so cool! I like the chord progression and that 60s solo guitar.

Great job, really fun and well crafted song. All hail, Queen Beaver.
@emkaydeebee Feb 2022
Love it! Queen Beaver’s vocals are beautifully delivered, and it feels heartfelt. A great Right to Reply song, with musical nods and winks to the source material. Perfect!

LOOOVE the change from B7 to A7 and back, then to that 'regular E major adds a touch of awkwardness that paints the song in the colors it needs.
But there's so much more to love about this song. The lyrics are dead on. Ask or forever stay in the dark. The 'primitive' 60s lead is just so fitting. Figuring out which note to play next is the way to go for this subject. Ask that fretboard* where to -and where NOT to- place your fingers and you'll discover fine.
*replace fretboard with ...ah well, you got it
