I'm not sure if I'll put this to music. How often would I sing it anyway? What do you think, leave it as is or add music?
I Was Going to Write a Song for You
Deirdre M Murphy
I was going to write a song for you,
But there were pretty couples dancing on the ice.
Very nice
Watching them dance is like falling in love
They do Giddy dizzy twizzles
And their lifts sweetly swivel
And they sway and bow like courting doves
I was going to write a song for you
But there were athletes whirling through the air
Lots of flair
Watching their tricks is like flying in dreams
They spin, grab and tumble
And land smooth, without fumble
And they grin in the snow and sunbeams
I was going to write a song for you
But there were luge sleds hurtling down on the ice
Like rolling dice!
Watching them is like warping through wormholes
They lay on their back
And never look back
With their toes on the steering controls
I am going to write a song for you
But there’s more people on skis, sleds, and skates
You gotta wait!
Watching Olympics is lifting my mood
Though I’m too old
To win that gold
I can dream, and it feels so good

This is a very cleverly written song. There's so much imagery that I feel like I'm watching the Olympics with you. You use repetition effectively and the lyrics feel quite rhythmic. Nice work!

Add music and you could use it as an anthem every four years.

I think this is very evocative of the winter. I think if you took out the olympics line it'd still be a pretty good winter song. I didn't initially read it as entirely about sports until the end. My image was almost like someone sitting on a park bench watching people skating and sledding instead of the olympics and despite the athletes and luge stuff. #tit4tat

Nice song, but I agree with you that its shelf life will be short.
