Out of my 700+ songs I've written, quite a few have been about ghosts. This is one of the prettier ones. I can imagine this as a minor track on an early Gordon Lightfoot album. Too bad I was nearly asleep when I recorded it.

Lady of the shadows
Eyes in the gray
So far away
Not from today
Walking in the meadows
Feeling so blue
She tries to tell you
But you cannot hear a sound
You cry for her
She cries for you
What can you do
Through silvery time
Lady of the shadows
A long-ago day
She was taken away
Misty eyed souls surround her
But she does not know
She thinks she is free
Till the daylight in me
Frightens her and I’ve lost her
You see through her
She sees through you
What can you do
Through silvery time
Too far
Like a fading star
Within
Deep inside the marrow
Is where it begins
And where it will end
In her eyes of gray
Lady of the shadows

This is a beautiful ghost story, told with delicate guitar and soft vocals. The lyrics have strong imagery. I love “silvery time.”

This has a lovely mystical feel to it. I love the lyrics “deep inside the marrow is a where it begins and where it will end”. Chills!

Why does this make me want to know who this lady of the shadows is?

700+ songs…holy smokes. I’m sure you’ve covered lots of topics. Lady of the shadows…nice little ghost song. Enjoyed the guitar playing.

A more mystical than spooky take on ghost tales.
I like they see through each other.
Gray, silver, mist, shadows--nice color palate to match.

Beautiful guitar work. Is that your Taylor? Till the daylight in me frightens her and I lost her. That is fantastic.

Yes, this does have the 'old folksinger' sound of someone like Gordon L.
I've written a few 'ghost' songs, too, most have not seen the light of the day since first trying them out!
Certainly tough to not be trite, and to also get the story out there.
