Feb 2022 fuzz electronica fuzztronica
I feel like I haven't really played much guitar so far this year, so thought remedy that with an anti-valentines day song with all of the guitars.
Other than the organ, drums and a bit of bass, as the bottom end was really empty, all the sounds on this are made by my guitar. Even the weird synthy stuff.
I basically looped the organ parts and improvised over the top for twenty minutes then chopped it up and made it into a song.
Might have to wait to do another guitar song though, as I've developed a nice finger blister, presumably due to the aforementioned lack of guitar playing.
Keyboards here we come then!
When we were young
Thought we'd conquer the world
Turns out the world conquered us
Though it was fun
To pretend that we had won
This game always ends in self-disgust
I fell in love with the ghost of your memory
I fell in love with the idea of you
I fell in love despite obvious treachery
No sign of impending rescue
Flowers are paint them to hide it
We can still sell them as if they're fresh
Blues and the reds
On every petal that they shed
Wait to extract their pound of flesh
I fell in love with the ghost of your memory
I fell in love with the idea of you
I fell in love despite obvious treachery
No sign of impending rescue
I fell in love with the ghost of your memory
I fell in love with the idea of you
I fell in love with the ghost of your memory
I fell in love with the ghost of your memory
I fell in love with the ghost of your memory
I fell in love with the ghost of your memory

I like the vibe of this and the harmonic shift at the first ‘I fell in love’ is delightful. I like the instrumentation throughout, makes for a really strong sound. Shame on you for not doing more guitar!! Great song
@ayehahmur Mar 2022
That's a great chorus. Love the words, love the melody, which is a proper indie earworm. And the guitars sound brilliant, there's so much going on and you get more and more from it with each play.
Really interesting writing technique to record anlooped backing and improvise over it. Might try that some time.

This is great - lovely layering of guitar parts and some pretty inventive sounds to get of a guitar! I love the fade at the end; the first time I listened I hoped it would fade with the vocal getting echoier (is that a word?) and it absolutely delivered. A really nice song.

Some excellent lines here, that first verse in particular. Very nice stuff. I could imagine a huge monster fuzz bass mirroring the guitar on the chorus, but I guess that would ruin the whole ghost vibe.
@leepat Mar 2022
strong erasure/80s vibes here.
great hook for the chorus, nice mix of guitars and synths and interesting shake-yo-booty drums to complement it all.
anti-valentine but you still fell in love...

I like the overall sound of the reverbed, fuzzed guitars and the sharp, cutting snare. I think it gives the song a haunting sound, kind of like the Raveonettes. Definitely fits the lyrics. The ghost of a memory idea makes me think of psychological repression, like painful memories ejected from the brain for so long the only thing left is a fuzzy, vaguely familiar outline that won't die. Also it's really catchy to sing!
@theawkwardsleep Feb 2022
love your builds on this, its great. that chorus is so catchy! lyrics are great, just great intensity and the little synths wobbling about are so well done. especially right before the flower are paint... bit.
this is a real winner.
@balancelost Feb 2022
That's a real 60s fuzz guitar sound you've achieved there. For some reason this song reminds me of Shakira. Have you thought about selling it to her?
@splittybooms Feb 2022
Vocals give me Arctic Monkeys vibe and I love it, sounds great!
The guitars have a warm fuzz that feels like an electric blanket for my ears.
Nice simple groove with the drum rhythm.
Vocal melody is quite nice, especially on the "I fell in love with the idea of you/No sign of impending rescue" - the way you go a little higher at the end of those phrases reminds me of Sweetest Taboo.
Love how you just trail off in the end there. You could've kept doing that over and over for another minute or so as far as I'm concerned; really dig that.
This just has a great mellow melancholy feel with a touch of haunting due to the lyrics.
Great listen!

“This game always ends in self digest” is such a great line. I love how haunting this whole track is, yet still catchy. I could also see it opening a James Bond film. Loved it!
@paulh1237 Feb 2022
"it was fun to pretend we had fun" is a great line. You really get some cool sounds of that guitar, well worth a blister for sure.
@hanley Feb 2022
Sweet beat, reminds me of an old Mark Aronson track I used to love.
So many great sounds and parts happening at once, but never overwhelming. Love the last repeating line, it’s really catchy and I was definitely singing along by the last few times!
@vomvorton Feb 2022
Fuzztronica! That's a very appealing tag. The fuzz sounds glorious here, especially in that explosive instrumental section after the chorus. Lyric is darkly wonderful - nice job!
@slightlydrunk Feb 2022
Instant hit for me, got hooked from the very first chord! The whole arrangement creates an excellent mood for the theme, the key change came as a very pleasant surprise.
I'm extremely impressed by your instrumentation, all guitars?! Wow!
And I wish I could sing like you!
@miga Feb 2022
I like the anti-Valentines day song idea. Pretty impressed that it was all guitar!
@frenchcricket Feb 2022
Great song. Something about the cadence of the hook is really addictive (like unrequited love??), it falls in an unexpected place. Really enjoyed
@owl Feb 2022
Yay, more guitars! I like the melody and these lyrics are really good, the main hook is so memorable.
@bandybum Feb 2022
Digging this track - love the guitars and arrangement. Cool lyric "I fell in love with the ghost of your memory" - I can relate to this.
Nice work!
@chroes Feb 2022
Mh, that intro is everything! Love the instrumentation and how it ebbs off to make room for the verse.
The vocals are beautifully soft and nicely processed, vulnerable and poetic. I especially enjoyed the changes in tempi in this piece. One of my faves this FAWM!
@nateger Feb 2022
Great tone on the guitar. Just the perfect amount of fuzz. Really neat key change. Awesome instrument sections! Your voice is clear and lonely enough to pierce my heart
@skylermf Feb 2022
I love that line about the world conquering us vs. conquering the world. I’m glad your pulled your your guitar for this one - it sounds great! I hope your fingers heal quickly :)
