I started writing this as I felt moved to do so after reading the thread about political songs. I felt like being totally uncompromisingly political - not preachy or trying to get people to think. I’m not sure if I’ve done this but o did enjoy the process. Half way through abd I was running out of steam that’s when o saw the skirmish. The prompt ‘freedom to suck’ gave me a new lease of life. I incorporated it in a different context than I’d usually feel like doing.
Ten reasons ( why I hate capitalism)
I hate you cause when I needed you you just whispered in my ear
That my flaws would be my downfall and I should buy something
I hate you cause I grew up twisted looking for the catch
And my innocence was just a way to make me buy something
Two reasons but there are many more
Why I dont want to share my life with you
Two reasons to get you out the door
To purge what is deceitful and untrue
I hate you cause you lead the kids to want to have more stuff
That they are small consumers snd should buy more things
I hate you cause you discard it once an items had a scuff
It’s all about the way to make us buy more things
Four reasons but there are many more
Why I dont want to share my life with you
Four reasons to get you out the door
To purge what is deceitful and untrue
I hate you because you think of us in the same way
There are no sentient beings just things of worth to you
I hate you cause responsibility is just a cross you have to bear
Lip service to integrity to access things of worth to you
Six reasons but there are many more
Why I dont want to share my life with you
Six reasons to get you out the door
To purge what is deceitful and untrue
Where is the integrity where did it go
Is it living underground - with luck !
Where is real honesty real values real you know
Real lack of pretence real freedom to suck
Nowhere - nowhere to be found ?
I hate you cause you’re fake you come prepackaged- all worked out
to trick and lull me into buying something
I hate you cause what’s the point you preen and pout
You look the part - all this in the cause of buying something
Eight reasons but there are many more
Why I dont want to share my life with you
Eight reasons to get you out the door
To purge what is deceitful and untrue
I want to hate you but in truth I just despair cause I know you know it’s all in error .
In your ridiculousness - your nails your hair
Your tiny handbags - it’s just a proof you live in terror
Your fear - a symptom and yet a cause
Your looks - immaculate and shallow
Your life - a mix of gluttony snd chores
Your reward- to make others want to follow.
I want to hate you but in truth I just despair cause I know you know we won’t all make it
It never was and it never will be fair
Your way of coping just to fake it
Eight reasons but there are many more
Why I dont want to share my life with you
Eight reasons to get you out the door
To purge what is deceitful and untrue
I hate that it’s only when they’re close to the core
That people realise it sucks to live to buy something
I hate that all those people could have been so much more
If they hadn’t been seen as means to buy something
Ten reasons but there are many more
Why I dont want to share my life with you
Ten reasons to get you out the door
To purge what is deceitful and untrue

right on!
my fav part is this (and i think it might be the crux of the song):
I want to hate you but in truth I just despair cause I know you know it’s all in error .
In your ridiculousness - your nails your hair
Your tiny handbags - it’s just a proof you live in terror
great job!

Are these words available for collabing?

Really insightful, though provoking lyrics.
Highlights what a mess we are in. All our society’s roads lead to spending more and throwing away too fast. I need to rethink my life model too. Consumerism is definitely a disease.
Works as a song, a poem or spoken word. Great work.

Let it all out, feels therapeutic and honoring a feeling we normally hide away and don't acknowledge.

wow- powerful and creative stuff there, so many great lines. You're on to something for sure!

Given how many songs I seem to write about dysfunctional relationships and economic issues, it's a wonder I never put them in the same song. Nice work, and fitting given the Hallmark holiday we are currently enjoying.
Also, did you just reference @keithcuts with the "Real lack of pretence real freedom to suck", because that is downright inspired as a follow-up.

OOoh. I like that counting by twos. And how capitalism is like an old friend or lover who you are tired of. Then the sweetness of knowing that Capitalism knows she's ridiculous with her nails and hair...
This looks like it would have been really satisfying to write. Did it all come pouring out in the hour.
