Feb 2022 hip-hop-spoken-word laid-back pop folk
So I wrote this one with a friend - Kevin Suggs. I did the chorus and the song structure and he wrote and spoke/rapped the verses. This was a first for me doing this kind of song. The hard part was really doing all the vocals to make it sound like lots of different people and all the yeahs and uhs and stuff. Production and mix really tripped me up too but I think it is good enough for now.
CH
What I need I can borrow
And pay it back tomorrow
Or in a week or two
What I want - to be free of this sorrow
I'd climb Kilimanjaro
To get over you
V1
Heartbreak is rough
It brings up mountains of emotion
It'll smack you down, toss you round
like a lifeboat on the ocean
So if you think you can't go on
And rock bottom is soon to hit
Remember it's better to have loved and lost
Than never to have known it
V2
So grab your ropes and carabiners
I mean that figuratively of course
With the tools of heart and mind
You can conquer this remorse
And someday you'll reach the peak
And your flag will catch the wind
And you'll come down the other side
With the will to love again

This is great fun! Love the chorus and the cool off beat guitar licks. The spoken word works so well (I’ve never managed to pull that off) and you look forward to the chorus (which is what choruses should do). The lyrics are great.
This is so likeable and fun. So very well done.

Love this, Josh. Something about that great chorus of voices- I picture a church full of choir-robed folks singing to the rafters.

I love the mix between hip-hop and pop song. The acapella part is top notch with all the voices harmonisations. Congrats!

The idea of climbing Kilimanjaro to get over someone is, well. I don't have the words for it. Beautiful little pop song with some nice complexiety woven in for good measure.
