An ode to the vast US and it's natural beauty, which I've had the great privilege of exploring.
Oh baby come to Minnesota
Early in the spring
There’s nothing quite as hopeful
As flowers blooming
While the snow’s still melting
And the grass ain’t green yet
And all those naked trees
Ain’t even dreamed of leaves yet
Oh baby come to California
Summertime gold
The mountains fresh
And the trees are old
And nowhere else has left me feeling more exposed
I’ve found that the ground here likes to flow
I could live
A hundred thousand lives
And I could die on every mountaintop
And still not know the sky
And I could climb up every mossy wash
And watch my problems wander off
And still not find the common cause
For all these guises God has got
Oh baby come to Tennessee
The mountains east of Tallassee
Are tall and green
And tulips bloom in the canopy
Follow me we’ll walk and see
The bald atop the tallest peak
Where all the trees will leave us be
As the valley drops beneath our feet
Oh baby come to Maine
Stay a while, watch her change
Whether frozen on the ocean
Or pouring down as rain
The water here will move
The beat in your veins
I could live
A hundred thousand lives
And I could die on every mountaintop
And still not know the sky
And I could climb up every mossy wash
And watch my problems wander off
And still not find the common cause
For all these guises God has got
She is home to me
Sprawling out from sea to sea
I’ve traced my tires across her arteries
For weeks and weeks and weeks
She’s taught me how to treat my feet
And showed me where my tent leaks
And left me lost at three am
To hear the night intensely
I could live
A hundred thousand lives
And I could die on every mountaintop
And still not know the sky
And I could climb up every mossy wash
And watch my problems wander off
And still not find the common cause
For all these guises God has got

Makes me wish I could travel more. The mix between picking, heavy strum, and gentle strum give this great variety - kind of like the nature you were describing.

Along with all that's listed below, I enjoy the variety of guitar work: single melody, finger picking, voiced and muted strumming. And I love how all this variety helps to create a fully realized song of a single vision. Well done!

I love that bridge and the possibilities of the "she." Is she god, is she the US, is she family? It takes the nature to a deeper spiritual place. Enjoying the g sounds in "all these guises god has got."

What an incredibly good song so well played and sung....an alternative national anthem? That good!

“I could die on every mountaintop and still not know the sky” has got to be one of the best lyrics I’ve heard this February. Great stuff!

Wonderful trip you just took me on. Love the imagery and the changing perspective throughout. Not only location, but great and small... confident and vulnerable. Your voice and guitar lock one into the other. I really enjoyed this.

I have to say, you had me at "Oh baby come to Minnesota"- my home state! Great guitar work, well mic'd, interesting melody (esp in chorus) and I really like the lyrics exploring some of the wonders of the continent. Thanks!!
