I don't know what this one sounds like yet, but rest assured, it's a true story.
2/23 update - simple riff; four chord song. bouncy pop.
[D]the Ex dumped me on [A]"V" day
she[Bm] even kept the [G]gift
I'd [D]know later that I dodged a [A]bullet
but [Bm]then though, I was [G]miffed
never learned if my friends really cared
or she asked 'em to distract
still, they had me over the day after
without realizing the impact
-----
We piled into my friend's dorm room
popped in some VHS
I'd never met my friend's roommate
new pal, perhaps, I guess?
I wish I could say I played it cool
but it's me, come on!
If I'd managed to be cool and suave
this might be a better song
----
[D]nerds dating in the [A]90s
took some [Bm]work to find each [G]other
[D]no web sites, apps or [G]cell phones
love was a [Bm]challenge to [G]discover
[D]when you're a dork and [A]awkward and [Bm]struggling to [G]succeed
[D]It's tough to win one's [A]love's heart
at [Bm}least it was for [G]me
----
I was intrigued, I grant you
by her raven hair and wit
both kind of shy and hesitant
but eventually we hit
the room sang along with musicals
we two began to talk
Felt like it was just the two of us
we really hit it off
-------
comparing lives and stories
finding lots in common
favorite books and movies
a taste for chicken ramen
but what most caught her attention
was when the movie changed
with my display of Monthy Python lines
our fate seemed ordained
--------
nerds dating in the 90s
we still found each other
no web sites, apps or cell cell phones
love still a thrill to discover
encyclopedic knowledge of 'Holy Grail's best scenes
could surely win one's love's heart
at least it did for me!
---------
we stayed up all night talking
only talk I'm serious
both felt great in our connection,
but lacked experience,
neither skilled in arts of romance
but we tried our best
finding us together in the morning
we left our friends to guess
-------
our romance often hinged upon
star trek syndication
Sunday nights with x-files
a regular situation
sharing favorite books and stories
a feature of our courtship
to quote the UseNet parlance
we were the one true 'ship!
-------
nerds dating in the 90s
we still found each other
no web sites, apps or cell cell phones
love still a thrill to discover
encyclopedic knowledge of 'Holy Grail's best scenes
could surely win one's love's heart
at least it did for me!

This is very very relatable!!!!
This is a sweet lyric and rings very true - It works well!
I'd really love to hear this some day, if you get around to recording something - or if the stars ever align for us to be in the same place. :)

Very nice - I like when there's truth behind the lines. And might this be the second instance of Monty Python knowledge winning your true love's heart? For you and in the film Sliding Doors? Top work!

I hear blink 182. Might have a go at something along those lines. Really enjoyed this!

Fun story about kids playing at love. Waiting for the music.

This is sweet. Your almost rhymes work well, they're close enough to be interesting instead of jarring. Good work.

Nice one, I'd like to hear this song. You rhymed common with chicken ramen! And your chorus starts with "nerds dating in the 90's"....I mean, you've got me right there.
@winchperry Feb 2022
I can really picture this romance! Shape it up into lyrics and you'll have quite the story. You mention the break up at the beginning - I want to hear more about that at the end, or better yet, leave it for a surprise ending! Great job

Excellent writing. Sounds very real.
