This week's theme on the Ukulele Underground "Seasons of the Ukulele" contest is "Which decade is the best for music?".
Prompted by a comment on the thread (https://forum.ukuleleunderground.com/index.php?threads/season-522-which-decade-is-the-best.153250/post-2316205) by user 'scrambled_eggs', here is my attempt at giving a definitive answer.
February 3rd, 1959,
End of the decade, and the day the music died
But then came the 60s, the Beatles and the Stones
Dylan found his voice, plugged in and changed the world
When was the music, the best you ever heard?
The singers and the bands you preferred?
Well, of the records that you've played, and the songs you have sung
The decade that's the best is the one when you were young
Into the 70s, disco, prog and glam
Birth of Roxy Music, Abba and The Jam,
Lennon and McCartney are no longer a team
But Dylan's still going and released his masterpiece
Is this the pinnacle, is this highest class?
Is this decade unsurpassed?
Think about your favourites, nostalgia says it all
The decade that's the best is the one when you were small
The electronic 80s gave us walkmen and CDs
808s and keyboards straight into our ears
Jackson does his moonwalk, Thriller sells so much
Dylan's found Jesus, and maybe lost his touch
Is it the eighties or some other time
When music was in its prime
Autotune or Synthesizers, rock and roll or punk?
When you grew up was best, and that modern stuff is junk
Whatever decade it now is
It's not as good as when you were a kid
At least we all agree that the current one's the worst
But the decade that's the best is when you heard music first

Nice trip through the decades. You pulled up a lot of old stuff. Good job.
I've got a couple of nostalgic tracks from all of them and earlier but my favorite is always something I haven't heard before.

Nice write, and a concise take on the question.

Kudos on reaching beyond 14. Thanks for the nice re it’s of Its all Stars. I think my favorite decade was the 40-s As Time Goes By, Deep Purple, Red Sails . Although, I was not yet born at that time.

Awesome, and so very true. As an elementary school music teacher, I must constantly remind myself of this. I remember that to be hip with the kids, I used to play Mr. Jones by Counting crows... for 20 years. My students are 5-14. I have a narrow band of music that was released in their lifetimes to draw on... Although I go heavy on my favorites from MY era too.
