@vomvorton - Paul sent me an incredible bassline and drum track, and also a version with guitar and synths on it that he wasn't quite happy with. So I re-recorded the guitars, cleverly leaving out half of the notes because of my limited skills, and we turned the whole thing into a crazed duet about living inside yourself, inspired by a conversation about nested FAWM collabs. Paul initially said that this was "twee" so I put a ukulele and handclaps on it. But now it contains the lyric "I feel like a multi-fetal feast, behold the belly of the beast", I don't know what to think any more. Other than I love it!
@paulh1237 : I had to go down some weird reddit rabbit holes to get that lyric. I don't think I'll ever recover, so I hope it was worth it. @vomvorton did a great job as always with the mix and I'm veryy pleased with how this turned out!
there's another me inside of me
afflicted by claustrophobia
my internal entourage elect
to recreate the Droste effect
insert a coin, here's a new player
every life another layer
feeding on my discarded outers hell to see
a succession of superficial me
the voices that I hear
slowly shrink and disappear
concentric circles, cannonballs
like a snake, I shed my skin
reveal myself as my own twin
inside I am a Russian doll
I barely recognise myself
I'm bubble wrapped, fresh off the shelf
I feel like a multi-fetal feast
behold the belly of the beast
but somewhere deep inside my chest
I hear an uninvited guest
the echoes of a gasp for air
storing storage still got space to spare

love the extended metaphor - great images and the back and forth of the voices is an apt illustration for the concept.
infection energy too.
good stuff!
@balancelost Mar 2022
YEah, dual vocals are awesome! Love a nice upbeat tune like this. That bass is great. All the guitars sound smashing too. The synthy breakdown in the middle is one of my fave bits.
@seemanski Feb 2022
This is great. The mix sounds fantastic and your vocals together are brilliant. Love the frantic feel of the tune and your bass lines are superb as always. Really really enjoyed this. You get a thumb up in a thumb up in a thumb up from me.
@robs Feb 2022
Fun backing vocals, I'm still waiting for season two of Russian Doll, and didn't know the Droste effect was known outside Holland. Had to listen multiple time to hear everything that's happening. Love the break as well!
@rshakesp Feb 2022
This is crazy, great but crazy - genre defying like nothing I’ve heard - it really rocks along is full of musical interest. With lots of fascinating avenues you didn’t expect it to go down - some great guitar work and strong production to boot - super song and a special ending
@taracraig Feb 2022
So catchy and bizarre! Really enjoyed listening to this one. The lyrics are so interesting, really like Russian Doll metaphor. Fantastic collab!
@richaaaay Feb 2022
Dig'n this chorus. It's catchy and lyrically superb. The driving music, guitars, bass, drums, etc. keep it all moving along.
@shortdan Feb 2022
This is great - some really interesting melodic twists and turns. A super cool trademark @paulh1237 bassline once again too. Loads of fun is this - top collab work.
@iwilleatyou Feb 2022
These are quite the lyrics! It's as if the happy vibe doesn't quite fit them and yet...it works. That's what makes it hit right? I'll go grab the Hubba Bubba gum and pop it in with this.
@xfloorpunchx Feb 2022
Love this collab, congrats! I really dig the pop vibe on the verse and the punk guitar on the chorus!
@jimdgreen Feb 2022
this is such a joyous song - love it,
@sailingmagpie Feb 2022
The call and response is great. This kinda has a bit of a Balance Lost feel to it! "I barely recognise myself I'm bubble wrapped, fresh off the shelf" is an excellent couplet.
@bigmood Feb 2022
oh this makes me happy! this puts me in mind of all my favorite pop punk songs of the early aughts. Hits that sweet spot just right, especially how the call/response of the verse goes into the combined vocals of the chorus. Just perfect dude
@itneverhappened Feb 2022
Weird pop greatness. The two voices works so good together. Love the instrumentation and arrangement too, the instrumental part towards the end is lovely!
@guatecoop Feb 2022
Wow, this one turns on a dime without any hesitation! The twists and changes of pace all fit together so well--which is not easy to pull off. The playing is fantastic and I just love the lyrics! Such a fantastic collab!
@adforperu Feb 2022
Such versatility from Paul, listening to this immediately after the Jed collab. This is really fun, you work so well together, the duet vocal ideas are so great! So much to love about this, the boom-cha-cha---cha beat, the oscillating synths, those crunchy guitars, the bar room sing-along choruses... perfectly done.
@owl Feb 2022
This is great! Love the way you guys trade off lines and come in together on the chorus. Also this has so many great lines! I’m not going to call out every individual one but the lyrics are brilliant. Love the drive and energy and all the THEMATICALLY APPROPRIATE LAYERS in the production. More noisy songs with ukulele and handclaps!
@plushbaby Feb 2022
The backing vocals are really unusual but work so well to draw the attention. Love the bass and the little phrases added as we move through the song. Lyrics are great, lots of highlights, bubble wrapped, fresh off the shelf goes so well with the toner of the song.
I could hear the chorus as the theme tune to an underground TV sitcom, if such a thing exists... Sounding awesome!
@theneongreen Feb 2022
This is loads of fun! I love the vocal interplay and there's a lot to unpack in the lyrics. Awesome work both!
@skylermf Feb 2022
The Russian doll metaphor is really clever! Incredibly catchy hook, especially paired with the guitar sort of mirroring it!
@loveonamixtape Feb 2022
Oh dang, this is cool! That bassline and drum track is INDEED siq! Love the fuzzy, rollicking guitar and that outro! The back and forth vocals are great and this line is *so. Good.*: "like a snake, I shed my skin / reveal myself as my own twin."
@thedutchwidows Feb 2022
This is cracking. Great energy, the lyrics flow beautifully, and those twin vocals are inspired. Very nicely done!
@frenchcricket Feb 2022
Those overlapping vocals sound amazing! What’s that fancy word when the music reflects the lyrics? Feels like that is going on here! I’ve had three listens now and i still don’t feel like I’ve picked up on everything that’s going on. The lyrics are amazing. Lots of surprising stuff - happy to learn of the Droste effect!
@dugganensis Feb 2022
So much going here, it's busy while staying light and airy. Cool blend or energies. Cool concept. That bass is working overtime! Unique and fun track!
@carleybaer Feb 2022
I love the inner voice call and response! The lyrics are great and perfectly suited to the music. A little neurosis, surprise, and confusion, but mostly fun, which is the most important bit. Nice work!
@circle Feb 2022
love the vocal duet with the regular vox and the ? vox. superb rhythm section, the bass especially has some brilliant lines. nice and fuzzy guitars, warbly synths in bridge and second section, all of it is very much my thing. the outro totally rules, melodic noisepop goodness. loved this one!
@rayboneor Feb 2022
Well alright: High concept meets brilliant execution. Who could ask for more. That's a clever lyric. Coming from a French literary criticism perspective, I would have been tempted to say "mis en abyme," but that's a lot of syllables. This is brilliantly catchy. That bass is killer. I love tunes that rock hard while staying twee and poppy, and you guys have nailed it. Love the bvox, too.
