Feb 2022 rock rawk anthem many-guitars bass-triplets
Sometimes the hardest thing to do as a musician is to just be yourself. This one's about finding your voice, melodically, compositionally, or otherwise.
It's how you walk; it's what you read
It's how you talk to those in need
It's what you do
That makes you you
It's your tradition; what you conceive
as superstition; what you believe
Win or lose
You get to choose
Do you retreat, or do you fight?
Do you choose darkness, or shine a light?
You've reached the point of inflection
But I can't advise you
You have to choose your direction
Stay the same
or try something new
Any prattle; every thought
Every battle that you have fought
Every scar says who you are
Succeed or fail—this is the way
It's each new trail you're going to blaze
Today's the day
See things your way

I particularly enjoyed to guitar tones on this one. Hard for me to classify the sound of this one into a genre, and I like that! Enjoyed listening.

I like the slow pace of this, like in a movie where a character is doing a badass walk in slow motion. Great chord progression here. The bass feels very determined.

Very cool chord progression, and a very tasty organ sound. Proggy in a rock-sinister kinda way. Which is an awesome way to get fierce advice. Rhyming prattle with battle is nice bold lyrical move! I think my favorite element though is they way your chord-elevator gets the vocal up a whole octave, in what, 4 lines? but almost without us noticing. It really makes the mood complete, that we're being scolded by this *entity* stalking towards us and suddenly oh hell we realize he's ten feet tall!
Especially digging the sonics of the outro.
And I think @radioovermoscow wins best comment.

Great lead in! Thats a strong vox! And that drum keeps banging away! I do hear some cohen in the changes in his euro time! I really like this, has seamless build!

This is what it would sound like if Leonard Cohen joined Yes, and they did an album in Jeff Lynne's studio... maybe?
@writeandwrong Feb 2022
Ahhh, nice work! I love the energy on this right from the start that kept me on the edge of my seat waiting for the build and then it came. So much thruth throughout in the lines. Sweet performance!!
@heliosonorous Feb 2022
I get some great arena rock anthem vibes from this in a very cool way; killer chorus and the marching steady pace really works well.

Nice! Love your vocals xP
@panch Feb 2022
Wonderful dynamics and build and release of tension. Guitars are absolutely top notch, love the multi tracked solo.

Exactly! So many traditional songwriter “experts” critique my more producer-based songs according to traditional standards but that’s not my music. Out of all the “pro” feedback “experts” at NSAI, only 1 got me. Thank goodness that one did but not enough to keep my membership. Excellent message and music - quite powerful throughout! Thank you for this!

Truth... hard truth... Sometimes it is easier to ignore what sounds good and comfortable and try new things all the time, but playing things that you connect with (and always have) is so comforting and satisfying. All of the above, obviously, but it is always good to go with who you are down deep.
And what this is is wonderful. Big and bold and full of many styles, which sounds like you to me, from what I know over the years. I know you have so many styles and it is fun to explore them, but hearing the big rock anthem is always fun. Great job on all the many parts of this one. Specifically love that lift in the second lyrical line. Nicely unexpected and then it all leads to the HUGE chorus. Awesome stuff. :)

This is like a training montage song for becoming a better songwriter! Tossing papers into trash, trying out that difficult scale, changing strings...
Till you finally get better and better and better and then you run up the stairs in Philadelphia.
Really love the guitarwork, but the overall arrangement is also just golden. And diamond.
