Feb 2022 fawmtronica electronic synth
Standup: I had some lyrics I sent to Nancy. She sent back music and melody, and all of a sudden it sounded like it should be a synth tune. Which is very much not really what I usually do. So we started building this.
Nancy: As often happens with Eric's lyrics, these led me to some musical ideas I hadn't tried before. Synth tunes are very much not what I usually do either, but I like how this turned out!
You say you live in reality
It comes over a wire to your TV
The cable and the internet
provide everything we can get
You sit in the dark wearing goggles
Reality is just a model
What’s possible once seemed so clear
All possibility in your sphere
CHORUS
Let go of unreality
Take a chance on audacity
Let’s try the impossible one more time
The possible has lost its shine
Bridge:
Evaluate your life
Find the lies you can recognize
The screen glows blue and bright
With vistas to explore
But to feel some real sunlight
You might just walk outside your door
Chorus:
Let go of unreality
Take a chance on audacity
Let’s try the impossible one more time
The possible has lost its shine

So when you say, "take a chance on audacity" are you referring to that gorgeous piece of software? ;)
Great song and very enjoyable.
@aaronnathans Mar 2022
Great collab. I totally feel this. My son wears his VR goggles for hours and I wish he’d get outside. Funny how the impossible is what used to be normal. Great 80s sound.
@fearlessflight2014 Mar 2022
This is such a thought provoking lyric and the electronic elements further build the dreamy ‘unreal’ quality. You guys have really built something beautiful and challenging here! Bravo!
@beacon Mar 2022
Love the chorus, both the lyrics and the music. It's got a feeling like I'm going to go into a wormhole or something, as it always feels a little unsettled, in a very good way! @nancyrost you sound so good here and @standup's bass is rockin'! Very enjoyable listen!
@pooka Feb 2022
Wow, that chorus. Took me by surprise.
I like how synthy and 80s this sounds.
@elesimo Feb 2022
So cool! The chorus is big and wide, it got me by surprise. A really nice collab here. And I love Nancy's vocals, it fits the mood so well!
@andygetch Feb 2022
All kinds of wow. The lyrics are current, and also would fit right in to a hero-breaking-free-from-name-your-favorite-dystopian-novel-turned-movie soundtrack. The vocal effects and delivery of all-sorts-of-stacked-instrument-layering take this over the top.
@elainedimasi Feb 2022
Interesting how the "possible" becomes the "unreality" in this. I'm nicely turned inside out by this track!
@kahlo2013 Feb 2022
Love being hit with a Great Wall of sound from the beginning and the great music. Love that bear and heavy low bass buzz. Great lyrics - love that chorus and I’m a fan of audacity! Wonderful vocal delivery!!!!! Great song!
@popmythology Feb 2022
I had a great time trying to unpack all the different sounds and layers. Especially liked the chorus, which vaguely reminds me of something or someone (a certain era or a certain artist, maybe, but I'm not sure). Good stuff! I enjoyed it enough to stick around and listen twice. And, of course, the message is an important and timely one.

This is one thing I'm loving about FAWM, people experimenting and stepping outside their comfort zone to produce some really excellent and original sound experiences! There's a really nice balance between some really dark squelchy synths and some nice 80's harp-like synths. I love the harmonies in the bridge as well. The lyrics are super fun and I love the theme of stepping away from technology and re-engaging with the world and simplicity. I know other's have already been commenting on this but the 'let go of unreality' is an excellent chorus opener.
@dasbinky Feb 2022
Sonically, this was not what I was expecting when I saw your names. :)
Strong Depeche Mode vibes to my ears, not just in the palette, but way the melody dances around it. "Let go of unreality" is a great hook.
Super cool tune!
@hbusse Feb 2022
A significant lyric aptly speaking to our current moment. “ But to feel some real sunlight / You might just walk outside your door” - yes! The synths and electronic sounds work really well to back this up, especially in the verse about the screen glowing blue and bright.
@sailingmagpie Feb 2022
Cool, dark synthy vibes here. Great 80s feel to the keys and nice technological lyrics.
@nadine Feb 2022
Oh yes I didn't expect this but the lyrics work so well with these gloomy synths. I love the vocals! Very thought provoking lyrics. Let's evaluate our lives.
@deena Feb 2022
Cool lyrics and sounds! The synths fit the subject just right.
@hoppiern Feb 2022
Wow, these lyrics work so well with the synth sounds - I’m glad you went in that direction. Nice collab, you two!!
@mikeskliar Feb 2022
This is amazing and thought provoking in every (good) way! love that lyric, and the arrangement choices, the synth, all the rest are totally in synch with the song, bold and clear production that's really great to hear.
love it!
@robynmackenzie Feb 2022
Absolutely stunning vocals, and those synths are so atmospheric and groovy. Love that dreamy guitar. This is a great collab!
@helenseviltwin Feb 2022
Ok - just going to get a picky, "Synth tunes are very much not what I usually do" - THEN HOW DID YOU LEARN TO DO IT SO WELL?! This is superb. Brilliant 80s vibe, with that kind of futuristic, but retro at the same time lyrics. Nice one!
@headfirstonly Feb 2022
I was drawn in right from the start by that gorgeous growly guitar. Some realy thought-provoking lyrics here; what strange times we live in.
Since Covid started, I seldom leave the house, so that line about reality coming over a wire to my TV really hits home.
