Feb 2022 fuc comedy silly iloveshortsongs true story
Dedicated to @gordon
I am conflating at least three separate occasions (thus the three verses) and I have no idea whether Gordon remembers or shares my opinion, but one of my happiest memories, is walking through Amsterdam with him, maybe eight years ago, talking crap about great musicians. I thought to record it for posterity. I am fairly sure he won't appreciate being called "Gordo", which is why I did it :)
Me and Gordo walking, talking
Through the streets of Amsterdam
Pete and Laura up in front of us
On our way to the Jet Lounge
This is just a happy memory
The only thing in this damn world that's free
Me and Gordo walking, talking
In the early April sunshine
I can't talk on behalf of Gordon
But I was having a whale of a time
This is just a happy memory
One you cannot take away from me
Me and Gordo, walking, talking
Robyn Hitchcock & Dan Treacey
From my favourite band of all time
The Television Personalities
This is just a happy memory
This one's purely just for me

I'm currently reserving Robyn Hitchcock and Television personnalities at my local library. And this is all because of you. There's an album conveniently titled " a memory is better than nothing".
I love how pluking a ukulele dust out the melancholy of memories and replace it by a pure childish joy. It feels like it's saying "Brought back a treasure from Amsterdam, and it's mine foreeeeeever !"
@sapient Feb 2022
That's proper lovely.
I remember much of this too, and also suspect there a bunch of different memories mulched up together...

There are so many absolutely delightful turns of phrase here. My favorite might be: "I can't talk on behalf of Gordon/But I was having a whale of a time." Just brilliant.

I wrote a response sir!

Oh Paul, such happy memories indeed! The Jet lounge! Thanks so much and also for getting the Television Personalities into the song as well. You are having a blinder of a FAWM this year sir! Hope you make it back to Amsterdam soon! You are always welcome,
