Feb 2022 cohenesque love-song classical guitar
When I first read Liz's lyrics, I heard a soul backing in my mind and that's what I volunteered to try and create. However, a few days later, having accidentally scrubbed the "soul" draft I had sung into my handy recorder the day I first read the lyrics, I picked up the nearest instrument to hand - a classical guitar - and started working on it. That guitar and the longing in the Chorus took me off in an entirely different direction as the spirit of Leonard Cohen seemed to hover over me saying: "This is one of mine".
So, whether I have plagiarised LC, I don't know. Certainly the Bb to Am movement is very LC.
Liz says: I always love how Berni brings my lyrics to life - his musical sensibility and passion. I do like the chord progression and love his delivery here. I wrote it my head as an uptempo rock song, so it is always fun to hear a version I didn’t envision. Love it! The beauty of FAWM! Thank you, Berni!

our (Bb) bodies (Am) entangled, en(G)twined

Such a great timbre to your voice just great for story telling. |This is an expressive and relatable story that is well crafted to portray that 'wanting" people have.
Well done.

Lovely smooth deep vocals. I really like your guitar stylings and the chord progressions you chose to express Liz's poignant lyrics. The last question in the bridge? Will someone let me know the answer? This is a meaningful collab!

Oh this song is a beauty. I really like the structure and use of repetition in Liz' wonderful lyrics. Out in the open clearly stated longing well articulated. I love the melody and the the gorgeous vocals bring the words to life. Lovely guitar playing also. Great performance too of such a new song. I really enjoyed listening to it.

Enjoyed this! Clean! You owned the incongruity of wife though and it changed the meaning in a possibly explanatory way that contrasted subversively and interestingly with the kind of plains and prairies and trains americana edge.

This is so lovely! The beautiful guitar, the strong melody, the great vocals - all come together to bring LIz’s wonderful lyric to life. Great collaboration!

The repetitions within this lyric amplifies the sense of desire and even (passing) obsession, and the folk form fits it perfectly. Berni's deep voice does sound Cohenesque! Love the unexpected chords.

Cool guitar playing and the vocals are amazing. Definitely reminiscent of LC, in a very cool way! Very evocative lyrics. Perfectly suits this style. Some truly great lines in there!

Another great set of lyrics really sensitively set to music. Great job both of you.

I knew this had to be good, but even knowing that, I still am amazed! Excellent!

Leonard Cohen I don't know, but that guitar is so pretty. I think souod would have been amazing too. The mark of great lyrics is that that can be sing in many styles and still work. This is a really good collab.

Yes I definately hear Cohen here, but also Cristy Moore. I love it, I really felt the lyrics as you sang them!
@coolparadiso Feb 2022
good lyric really well delivered I see a bit of the Cohen feel to it 1 particular change but it sounds a bit more classical folk to me! either way its very nice

Nice collab! Puts the tip of the knife on the seam between what we know we need and what the heart still wants. The restrained guitar pulls out the pathos of the "but, still..." beautifully.
