Second song for FAWM 2022. I was not sure what to write about and saw a sign outside a school as I was driving to work that said, "Doubt kills more dreams than failure" and a song was born. It came together fairly easily at that point.
I again used a beat from Addictive Drums for my click and used the Mark One electric piano in Addictive Keys. I used the Pod Go again for the guitar but I lost the cool warbly part of the preset I chose because I only recorded in mono. So I had to recreate it with a plug in. I got close. After FAWM I'll try and reamp the direct guitar I also recorded back through the Pod and see if I can get closer.
I'm using a couple of new mics for vocals this year: A Warm Audio WA87R2 and a Sterling Audio ST170 active ribbon mic. These go into the Warm Audio WA 273 preamp and then into the Focusrite interface.
Guitar was G&L ASAT tele into the POD Go. Bass was Godin BG into the WA 273 and then through the Focusrite.
DAW is Reaper as always and Audacity for the MP3.
Verse 1
Trying hard to put it out there
Do your best to keep it real
Only when you start to care
Lose your footing and the feel
Verse 2
Holding back from taking chances
Second guessing what you know
Only confidence advances
Make it happen as you go
Sub-verse
Don't stay in your head
Gotta follow your heart
Just go for it instead
Starting is the hardest part
Chorus
Doubt kills more dreams than failure
Don't let your insecurity derail ya
You miss the shots that you don't take
Regret the choices you don't make
Verse 3
No need to wait to make it perfect
The right time never comes along
No one avoids the chance of reject
No one is ever never wrong
Sub-verse
Chorus
Bridge
Full throttle
Showing no restraint
It's time to fly
Time to celebrate
Go for broke
And make it happen
Just be you
And go for the win
Sub-verse
Chorus

I really like your progressions and how the melody weaves around them. This has a certain sound that I can’t put my finger on….I think it reminds me of about 10 completely unrelated things, which is a really good thing. Super uplifting yet the tone and chords balance it all out. Really cool song!

This chord sequence is fun to follow, it's interesting where it leads the vocal - unexpected but also very natural sounding, the way you're doing it. Using the electric piano at it's low end gives a distinctive dark flavor that matches well with the "flatted" notes in the melody.
(Where the following chord gives a "flatted" sense because of its different expectation from the previous chord, is what I meant by that. Trying to express my subjective experience of this song!)
It's neat that the bridge is lyrically a lift but musically even darker in some ways!

Good take on positivity. I like the west coast vibe with everything sitting nicely in the mix. A fine song, sir.
