This song’s for my dear friend Ella to whom the universe has unfairly delivered breast cancer at quite a young age. She’s so great at life; good at loving and connecting to people; for ages I’ve admired her lack of barriers between love and awesome relationships with so many people. She’s so good at embracing all the delicious things in life; friends, family, travel, pleasure, food, music, ocean, art, philosophy, learning, celebration….. the list could go on. In this journey she’s again no exception in showing us all how to properly live; she’s embracing the challenge in suffering and transforming it into something positive, living lots of Buddhist philosophies I think (also coinciding with my recnent obsession with Thich Nhat Hahn)
She’s a fucking legend and lesson all in one. Goddess bless ya Bella we’re right here with you sending healing and hope you’re feeling alive again super soon xxx
There’s an art
to the hardships
you’re an artist
you somehow make it pretty even though it’s kinda shitty
you know
how to learn cos you’re a teacher
we’re watching how you ride between the wings of wise and kind
You’re inside a circle of light
you’ll float on through
we’ll carry you, we’ll carry you
hope you’re feeling better Ella
sending you healing bells
get better Ella better Ella
you know
how to grow
muddy flowers
your head’s inside the demons just invite them to come in and then you’ll
rise
from the ashes
full of fire
a new survivor
but till then
just breathe in
but for now
just breathe out
hope you’re feeling better Ella
sending you healing bells
get better Ella better Ella

Gosh this is so lovely. I bet Ella will just adore this track. I love the thought of healing bells too. the horn? that comes in during the "rise from the ashes" section gave me so many chills. This an inspiring reminder for how we should all live.

A beautiful tribute to your friend. Absolutely love the arrangement especially the stunning vocals. The orchestration is pitched perfectly - not too busy, not too sparse. The drop down to the downbeat ending with the uke works so well!

Such a lovely tribute to who sounds like a lovely friend :) Such a bittersweet feel to this, those 50s harmonies and the ice cream changes are so gorgeous - Ella is a great name to sing, it appears!

I recently watched a video of Thich Nhat Hahn's and I was like, 'oh it's awesome that he's in the world' and then like a minute later I found out he died. :(
The melody in the chorus with the horns is so wonderful. It sounds retro but not. It's a lovely tribute and I hope it cheers Ella!

I absolutely love this melody, and the production you put behind it, especially throwing the uke in at the end. :D Love those downward walk through the melody. This song just feels good.

@karlsburg25 Feb 2022
Ahhh lovely, that is the most beautiful sentiment for Ellaand shows that you too are a person of the same ilk as Ella with all that insight about her and it all really chimes with me so so much. I too have been all overThich Nhat Hahn for a few years now and various others. And the whole accepting of suffering in life goes a long way to creating more happiness. Its often the case we're drawn to people like that in times of suffering. I just wish that some of those teachings and learnings could be brought to the kids of today at an early age to enhance emotional development, reduce anxiety and help in times of difficulties. Its clear your beautiful friend Ella knows all this and is being a shining light through all this. And you know what lovely, so are you not only with this amazing song but with your beautiful soul. Big hugs for a beautiful, emotional morning listen from me

Well, damn, poor Ella. I'm ringing my healing bell on this end too. What a beautiful, big-hearted song. Love how the Susy house band gradually assembles itself into a huge warm blanket of love.
