Feb 2022 nautical-legend love-song guy-with-guitar tin-whistle
This one is inspired by the legend of Arturo and Catarina, which you may remember from the 1987 movie "Overboard," starring Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell, although I made up the details. Mildly irksome is that I realized after writing it that the chorus shares both its chord structure and most of its melody with another of my songs from a few years ago, but oh well. Enjoy.
Walking the beach at midnight
Finding my way by starlight
Waiting 'til the coast is clear
I've come to your house to throw
Pebbles at your window
And hope that you might hear
Feels like I've waited for this moment a thousand years
And if it takes another lifetime, I swear you'll still find me here
Oh, Catarina
Your father don't approve
'Cause he knows that you're too good for me
And I'm no good for you
But my love is like the ocean
And you pull me like the moon
So I'm waiting here for you, Catarina
Meet me at the harbor
I'll be on the water
I don't care if they pursue
We can brave the blue sea
Just swim out to meet me
And I'll abandon ship for you
Feels like I've waited for this moment a thousand years
And if it takes another lifetime, I swear you'll still find me here
Oh, Catarina
Your father don't approve
'Cause he knows that you're too good for me
And I'm no good for you
But my love is like the ocean
And you pull me like the moon
So I'm waiting here for you, Catarina
Now the fog is rolling in
And my strength is wearing thin
I don't hear you anymore
But if I swallow every wave
And we both go down to the grave
My heart will still be yours down on the ocean floor
Feels like I've waited for this moment a thousand years
And if it takes another lifetime, I swear you'll still find me here
Oh, Catarina
Your father don't approve
'Cause he knows that you're too good for me
And I'm no good for you
But my love is like the ocean
And you pull me like the moon
So I'm waiting here for you, Catarina
I'm waiting here for you, Catarina

Beautiful guitar picking, with the chords evolving, pretty much like a wave. Tin whistle is great for the foggy, sad but oddly warm feeling.
Now I don't like sad romantic stories so I'm not gonna cry, but darn you it's hard!

This impresses me deeply! Everything. The lyrics, the story, your vocals!
Such a wonderfull and amazing song - to me it is one of the best I listened to on this FAWM!
Thanks for sharing!

Clicked on this one to hear the tin whistle and right off it opens as a "night visiting" song - perfect!
"he knows that you're too good for me and I'm no good for you" is a wonderful mirroring double of a line.
Following that by the whistle so far away was unexpected and perfect. Makes a clear reflection of what's seeming unattainable. Immediately, "swim out to meet me, I'll abandon ship for you" has so many layers of meaning.
Appreciating how much richness and variation you are getting out of just one guitar, as well.

This is beautiful. Great storytelling in the lyrics put to a gorgeous melody with really nice accompaniment. That distant tin whistle is so atmospheric. My favourite bit is the pre-chorus where the melody climbs high in a very dramatic way. Marvelous singing too.

This is truly beautiful. Love that distant-sounding flute (or is it a pan flute?) Gorgeous melody and heartfelt performance. Love the simple accompaniment. Lovely sad lyric too. Completely enthralling. Love it!

Great write: the tidal pull is a great image; turning it on end to the watery grave is another. Lovely pennywhistle interlude.

So beautifully sung and performed. Nice whistle addition. My favor line is "But my love is like the ocean, And you pull me like the moon"
