recordings have caught up with completed lyrics...
for now, at least.
this is a fawm-finish thing.
the first 2 lines have been in my back pages for a really long time. i don't even know how long. at some point in the hazy past, i assume that i had a flashlight in my pants. and the tiny joke stuck with me. these days i usually have a small petzl headlamp in my go bag.
the rest of the first verse came along years later (but still years ago), in a quick attempt to finish the song.
i decided to force-fawm it now because it crossed my mind again, and it seemed like it might always be an unrecorded one-verse fragment.
i expect to do at least 14 completely new things, so i won't fret too much about measures of newness.
musically, i basically knew the vocal melody for the first verse, and i didn't really create much new around it... but for me, it's always nice to actually somewhat flesh out the head melody... because there's no music theory in my head, so instrumentation is an adventure.
better leads and additions woulda been cool, but...
that’s a flashlight in my pants.
no, i’m not glad to see you.
it’s a black night, and i’m walking home alone.
here’s some coins for the jukebox.
go and have yourself a buck dance.
best of luck. i hope you make it on your own.
there are mishaps on the roads,
when only nature’s light can guide us
down all our pathways full of potholes and pain.
all our precautions and prophylaxis
risk-aversion by the truckloads
there is darkness... and a decent chance of rain...
so i also carry an umbrella...
all the long unlit streets...
in this cold and lonely city...
all the shadows where the lurking lizards lie.
a steady heart and a strong coat
against the unknowns that the mind meets
and a flashlight to aid a tired eye.

Ah Yeah! Happy melody, handclaps, springy lead, short concise track, laughs. Only recommendation I might have would be a jawharp solo. Lol

Oh yeah!
bags o fun, like the upbeat bounce of this song - the handclaps and shaker add just the right amount of accompaniment to the. Last verse nicely ties up the first too!

You brought a big smile with those opening lines. I enjoy the random picking mixed in and the percussion. The laughter and partial spoken word added a lot to the feel of the song. Nice!
