MUSIC
Sometimes during FAWM I pick up my guitar during MS Teams conferences, mute myself and play around. And I knew in the very instance I had something with that riff. During recording I was sure that I would heart this one, now I'm not so sure anymore.
You can definitely hear that Smashing Pumpkins were probably the number one musical influence in my life, but it might be just a little too close. And I'm not so satisfied with that typical "F---, what am I going to do next" middle part that I've had too often already. I wanted to integrate that little melody as a recurring motif on the album, but the transitions are not as elegant as I wanted them to be.
LYRICS
The winter Olympics happening in Beijing right now are the first Winter Olympics to only use artificial snow and ice. A tremendous waste of water and energy, especially for a megacity that has already sparse water resources. Go to hell, IOC, FIFA UEFA and whatnot. This inspired me to come up with the story of a skiing hall in the desert. Or did I? Actually I think there is one in Dubai (checking while I'm writing this and yep, there is one). So I didn't have to exaggerate much. In @popmythology's collapse challenge this would fall under B 2, extreme class inequality.
Deep in the desert
there is a crystal dome
A surreal sight of
one giant snow globe
A polar bear statue
greets you from afar
An engineering marvel is where you are
Outside it's fifty
inside it's minus five*
A winter wonderland
Ain't it 'cool' to be alive
Sheiks on snowboards
Emirs on skates
With helicopters
they came from far away
Forget your worries,
the riots and the wars
Enjoy winter
Like there was 100 years ago
Enviers, shut up and go to school
One day you can afford to go there too
Old photos of mountains
They pull up the shades
While outside they battle
to lick the condensate
The local policemen
soon have it under control
The guests' enjoyment
is the top priority of all
Don't mind the noises
On with the show
A perfect winter day
Sliding down the blood red snow

yes, a hint of Sexy Boy in that riff.
enjoyed the concept and particularly the sheikhs and emirs part.
amazing that it's actually not untrue.
another free association - Snowpiercer.

Feel like I'm listening to '90s Alt. rock radio, reminds me of Candlebox/Alice In Chains. I love the sleigh bells and change in production for the bridge. I dig it.

Great sound and lyrics to match. Your commentary here is powerful and the delivery really works to me!
@guatecoop Feb 2022
Yeah this is cool and heavy from the start. I just love those grinding guitars. Such a thick mix with so much emotion. Your smooth voice really sits nicely on this as a nice counter to the music--which seems to draw attention to both somehow. Really cool song!
@arthurrossi Feb 2022
Great lyrics and I like the contemporary references. The music is powerful and lets the sentiment shine through in a very intense way...
@waltermosch Feb 2022
Great track. The dark vibe is super cool. And so is the fuzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
@w1n Feb 2022
Massive sounding track, get a bit of Alice in Chains vibe in addition to early Smashing Pumpkins. Really like gnarly solo guitar tone, and the little bit with the jingle bells quote was funny in the good way. Grim lyrics, I live in Norway where at times winter sports feels as if it is worshipped as religion, sickens me.
@felixfelix Feb 2022
Wow this is nice and heavy!
@nahlej381 Feb 2022
I dig it! The pumpkins were a big influence on me too…they just knew how to FUZZ! This jams dude!
@cblack Feb 2022
Feeling some Nirvana in this. The interplay between guitar and drums... Yes. Definitely a killer combo! Love the solo.
@guitarpatz83 Feb 2022
Huge fuzz! That hit when the guitars slam in is massive. Love the idea of the lyrics. Love the solo on this one, kinda frantic which perfectly matches the theme. And jingle bells made me giggle. Great stuff
@spazsquatch Feb 2022
Nice.
Could someone close the gates of Hell, there is a draft coming in.
@sph Feb 2022
Isn't it sad that we don't have to exaggerate? Everything stupid thinkable already has been done it seems.
The song rocks!
@silvermachine Feb 2022
I can't resist a bit of sci fi, and I can't resist some great grunge rock, so there was no way I couldn't love this.
@loudlemons Feb 2022
Cool vibe and great execution !! It sounds really good
@mmmmarcus Feb 2022
Ooh I like the dark grungey vibe. Edgey and really cool. Looking forward to more!
@mattwdunn Feb 2022
This is killer. Loving the guitar sound. Heavy as f***. Great melody and performance
@dugganensis Feb 2022
Indeed, try to write a "collapse" song, and all the wild crap we could imagine going wrong with the world has already happened or is ongoing. It's all too much... But hey, this song RULES! Everything about it sounds fantastic, especially the vocals and obviously the tones. Really really good mixing too. I was getting mostly some Alice influence, but then heard the nod to "Geek USA" with the chorus.
@popmythology Feb 2022
Wow, this song rocks hard and it feels like a science fiction story! The imagery in the lyrics is stunning. "Sheiks on snowboards / emirs on skates," omg, so good. And the title, "Blood Red Snow," is perfect.
@radioovermoscow Feb 2022
Nothing wrong with getting too close to the classic Pumpkins sound - it's not as if Billy's making new songs in that mould anymore :)
@nadine Feb 2022
How much fuzz can you put into a song? YES! So much sarcasm in your vocal performance. The panning and layering punches right into your face. I didn't expect Jingle Bells. Ha awesome. 8 wings until doomsday. Thanks for that great fuzz!
@b3nut Feb 2022
Man...this nails the head on the hit. Bloody hell this is brilliant musically and lyrically. Love this one.
@nancihobson1 Feb 2022
I really love these lyrics. I also like how they are clear in the mix, sometimes grunge rock mixes drown them out. My favorite line, shut up and go to school one day you can afford to go there too. I like the change up there too. Good listen. Thanks :)
